Snapbacks Are Where It’s At

I’ve never been much of a hat girl, though I have plenty of aspirations. Last year I finally began to embrace cool weather loving wide brimmed hats so who knows, maybe snapbacks are next? Of course this style has been around for ages in sports, but lately I’m noticing more and more designs with a nod towards fashion.

Perfectly Rumpled Beds

There’s something completely self-gratifying about spying a trend that you’ve been part of for years, decades even. In this case, perfectly rumpled beds. I admit to making my bed every morning but I use that term loosely. Usually I simply make sure the pillows are at the head of the bed then throw the top sheet and duvet up over everything. Somehow at the end of the day that perfectly imperfect looks all the more welcoming.

Big + Bold Statement Art

It’s a trend that’s been slowly building momentum over the past year – big + bold statement art. While the gallery wall doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, it’s being given a run for its money by the impactful look of one large piece. So clean and simple, such a focal point. All of these things resonate with my heart and the clean aesthetic I gravitate towards. Feel free to go as big or as bold as you dare, an wall-sized mural is as much fair game as a massive canvas. The beauty of it all is that this treatment works in nearly every room, from dining room to bedroom and everywhere in between.

Embroidery is one of those trends that ebbs and flows, but never truly goes away in entirety. I think that has more to do with the style than the technique, because it can be everything from intricate and Victorian in nature to geometric and modern. We’e all seen it play out this summer on light and airy sundresses, so I’m interested in seeing how (and if) it translates to fall’s fashions!

When all you have with you is a bathing suit and some sunnies to state your style, a beach towel can make all the difference. This summer I’m noticing tons of bold graphic options everywhere that pack a punch of color on top of it all. I haven’t made a choice yet, but think I need to soon now that summer is officially here!

I’ve been wanting to add some small, staggered hanging planters to a corner of my living room for months now. Everywhere I turn there’s another fantastic hanging planter that I want to add to my home – copper, clay, geometric, you name it. And it would seem I’m not the only one with my eye on these space-saving flora accessories.

Modern and chic or trashy cool? Oh lucite, you’re so controversial! In moderation the transparency of lucite can act as a tool to visually open up a space or add a touch of 60s vibe. Stick to clean lines and minimal color and you’re set.

I remember as a kid absolutely hating fiber tapestry art, especially the brown piece hanging in my aunt and uncle’s apartment. It just wasn’t art to me. Now I think they’re incredible and I can’t wait to try my hand at creating a piece of my own. Whether you love them or hate them one thing is for sure, these wall hangings are experiencing a trendy comeback.

Tie-dye is experiencing yet another comeback, but not just any tie-dye – shibori. Shibori is a Japanese process for resist-dyeing cloth by binding, folding, twisting and compressing. There are tons of ways to manipulate fabric for shibori, each one creating different designs and patterns. And right now it’s showing up everywhere in the home and on the runway.
