Icebox Easy

When in the midst of a heatwave, the last thing anyone really wants to do is turn on the oven. But when the urge for something sweet hits you, well something just needs to be done. Enter icebox desserts. Super popular in the 1920s, they’re easy to make and sit overnight in the fridge. Quite the sweet tooth saver and I love their striations when sliced up and served.

Mojito Madness

Last summer was sangria, this summer is mojitos – at least by my humble declaration! I love the fresh and simple ingredients all of these recipes use. A mojito is a great excuse to use the last pieces in the fruit basket or to experiment a little and try something new with herbs and other essences. Popsicles + Poptails, Take 2

Little known fact: Design Crush’s most viewed post ever is last June’s popsicle roundup. I’m talking insane numbers, so I think it’s safe to say you guys like popsicles. Like, a lot. I couldn’t leave well enough alone of course, so I went and found even more popsicle recipes. Fifty of ’em to be exact.

Salsa!

Salsa gets pigeonholed as being red and tomatoey, when it’s actually extremely versatile. What do you have in your fridge? Chances are there’s something lurking in there that would make a great salsa. During summer I love adding fruit for an unexpectedly sweet kick against the heat. Ice Cream, Gelato, Frozen Yogurt + Sorbet – Oh My!

Ahhh, the unofficial start of summer is finally here! After months of above average high temperatures and global warming we can all sit back and rest easy. Time for less clothing, more barbecuing, and all things chilled and refreshing. To get you started here are 47 types of ice creams, gelatos, frozen yogurts, and sorbets. (I know, I’m sort of impressed too.) You can check out last summer’s ice cream roundups here and here if you’d like to add some more fuel for the fire. 25 Ways to Feel a Little More Refined By Eating Lots of Scones

Scones have a way of making you feel more refined, even if you’re eating one in your underwear over the kitchen sink. They’re something I’ve wanted to try making for over a year now, but I never seem to have the right combination of ingredients at the right time. (Story of my life.) The thing is, they’re actually really easy. You don’t need a special pan or weird kitchen gadgets to put a batch together. Wait, what was my excuse again?? Snap, Crackle, Pop

As a kid, Rice Krispies Treats were sort of the be all end all of classroom birthday treats. We only made them about once a year at home, so it was always extra special for me. Lately I’ve been noticing a trend of dressed up RKTs that are a little more adultified, if you will. Browned butter, dark chocolate ganache, macadamia nuts – endless possibility! You’ll also notice different variations on crispy/crispies/krispy/krispies throughout that left me looking up the correct spelling of the cereal. Hope you find at least one recipe that takes you back to simpler times in a kicked up way. (Click on the image to be taken to the recipe and source.)
