I adore Zooey. And although it’s such a random act of celebrity endorsement, I actually think this commercial is sort of cute. But the horrible song just ruins it. Ruins it I say!
Why is this a sellout? She’s earning a living. She is an actress, that’s what they do. The movies make money for studios, the songs make money for record labels. I don’t see this as different or negative. I also really like the song.
I <3 Zooey too. Maybe members of her family farm cotton? I doubt she needed this sort of work though, so it must have been a conscious choice, right? Am I cutting her too much slack?
I don’t really understand why cotton needs to advertise at all. Did I miss some big cotton-related controversy after which sales of jersey-knit t-shirts plummeted to depths previously unknown? Also, am I the only one who giggles a little when she sings the word “cotton” in the song? “Cott-nnnnnnn!” It’s kind of a cute ad, but at the same time, it’s really surreal. It almost registers as one of those parody ads you’d see on Saturday Night Live, for Mom Jeans or something.
so funny, the director that I am working with right now shot this spot. she was telling me about working with Z. She said she was a great person to work with.
loved reading all of your mixed reviews and comments on this!!
i love Zooey – her acting and her music. the song isn’t what’s disappointing – although the end is a bit cheesy – and the commercial is well shot. it’s the idea that someone so independent and off beat would endorse something as generic as Cotton. but just like Amy said, I guess everyone has their price.
I just like seeing another snippet of the blue room that was featured in one of the last issues of Domino (tear). And of course I love every last outfit she wears in this too!
