Happy Earth Day.

I try to do what I can to make a difference, but there always seems to be so much more. At home I recycle, turn off lights when I leave a room, turn off the water while I brush my teeth and use low flow shower heads. I also use compact fluorescent light bulbs as much as possible. Plans are in the works to start a small compost heap. And at work we’ve instituted recycling bins. (Which is only worth mentioning because we’re a tiny company.) These little things are so easy to do and quickly become a habit.

What do you do to try and help the planet?

I try to walk to work at least 3 days a week. I also believe buying local products is important because of the minimal transportation required to get the product to you. Happy Earth Day!

I don’t own a car or drive. My whole life is lived within a very wakable 8 block radius. I turn off my computer at night and keep my cell phone charger unplugged when it is not charging the phone. I use permanent grocery bags and recycle glass and deposit plastic bottles in recycling bins. I don’t subscribe to any newspaper and have reduced magazine subscriptions. I use 40 watt bulbs and put all lights on dimmer switches. I also use a water filter instead of buying bottled water. I think I can do more, I think we can all do more. I hope that Earth Day makes us all think of things we can do to help reduce, reuse and recycle

We have started our own compost heap, buy green cleaning products (even though they are way more expensive). We turn off lights, recycle, and watch our water usage. We try our best to buy local produce (although it is hard where we live).
And we have switched our energy source to windtricity.

We are just trying to do our part.
    HAPPY EARTH DAY!

seems like some things have become so routine that i didn’t even remember to mention them! i always keep appliances and chargers unplugged when i’m not using them. and i’ve stopped buying bottled water and use a filter instead (at home + at work). i’m so glad that they’ve become such a part of my life that i forgot about them!!!

I do what I can! I think BF thinks I’m nutty because I’m all about recycling. He said he’s never seen someone “prepare” their garbage as much as I do (rinsing things out, peeling off paper labels to recycle separately, etc). I recycle plastic bags and shrink wrap at the grocery store; plastic, cardboard, glass, and paper gets picked up at my house; I throw any compostable food junk into the woods behind my house for the animals (soon to be saved in a slop bucket for my brothers’ new pig, though!). I bring recyclables home with me to recycle, since my office doesn’t do it. Which is stupid, because are in the BUSINESS of recycling (it would take too long to explain here, but basically my company facilitates auto recycling). My car gets great mileage as well, and I buy eco-friendly stuff when I can (biodegradable trash bags, etc)
