Sue Williams A’Court

Sue Williams A’Court explores the combination of painting, collage, and drawing through reimagined landscapes. Classic landscapes get an update in graphite on a variety of surfaces, meant to make the viewer achieve a state of mind – solace – rather than a specific location.

These are nice! Can you tell me if the landscapes are drawn or collaged? And if they’re drawn, does she copy them from original sources? Thanks!

Sue’s site doesn’t specify her entire process, so you would have to reach out to her directly to get that info. 🙂

      Hi Carlene

the landscape images are drawn with graphite then i use spray paint and varnish and i appropriate the imagery from monochromatic reproductions of historical paintings found in catalogues and my collection of old books

Thanks again! I really appreciate your detailed reply, Sue. I work in pencil also, and always appreciate a great graphite piece (it’s not that common any more). Cheers!
