Grill About Town

I can hardly believe we’re a week into May already, where have the first four months of the year gone? And just like that, patio season is upon us and cooking out in the backyard (or on the balcony, or in a park, or on a table) is on the horizon. And yes, it’s “cooking out” not “barbecuing” – that’s a whole different ballgame. I have both a gas grill (thanks for the hand me down, Mom!) and small charcoal grill, how do you cook in the out of doors?

Margaritaville

Tequila is one of my favorite libations, so it figures that margaritas are high on my list as well. Preferably not too sweet, on the rocks, no salt. And not that you need a good reason to mix (or shake) up a good one, but it is Cinco de Mayo… so you’re sort of obligated. (As always, click on the image to be taken to the recipe.)

betsy & iya

Above all things betsy & iya feels authentic, and if you’re authentic I’m interested. Their pieces manage to feel both ancient and modern at the same time, no small task. Every piece is handmade with attention to detail and hand-engraved at Betsy’s shop in Portland by her and her helper, Lupe.

Pencil Shavings

Last week when my iphone case bit the big one I immediately thought of my friend, Rachel. More specifically, Rachel’s fabulous iphone cases that she designs for her shop, Pencil Shavings Paper. I’d been eyeing the bright, playful patterns since she first put them up for sale a few months ago. And now after one too many clumsy, ungraceful, Kelly moments I took action. It took no less than twenty minutes for me to settle on the curry striped hello! case. It showed up today with a little cleaning cloth and I immediately snapped it on – it’s attractive, fits snuggly on my phone, and seems to even be lighter than my previous case. Success!

Windsor

These Windsor chairs remind me of the ones in our kitchen as I was growing up, albeit ours were much more black and brown with gold decal accents. Ahem. It would also be a killer DIY project to find a set of rundown chairs and give them a bright new life.
