Glasses Shop.

The last pair of glasses I bought was waaay back in 2001. They’re a sweet black cat-eyed pair from Nicole Miller and I’ve replaced the lenses probably three times since then. I love wearing my glasses at least three days of the week and they’re in rotation with a pair from Calvin Klein and another from Nautica. But who am I kidding, glasses are freakin’ expensive and I can’t afford to drop a couple hundred every time I want an updated look!

Luckily, I now have greedy girl to thank for introducing me to Glasses Shop. It’s online which is way better than a trip to the eye doc’s and even more importantly it’s cheap. I just called my optometrist and asked them to release my prescription and after a little bit of paperwork (boring legal stuff) I had it in my hot little hands! Now I’m on the hunt for a new pair of glasses. Right now these two are in the running…

Daylesford & Hepburn Sparkling Mineral Water.

Melbourne-based Daylesford & Hepburn Mineral Springs Co. has some of the prettiest candy-colored fruit-flavored sparkling mineral waters I’ve ever seen. Not only do I love the retro-y looking labels, but their products are all natural, sustainable and local – they bottle and package only 100km from the water source. Sad for me, since it’s going to be a scorcher today and these look awful refreshing, but awesome for the Aussies who were tired of seeing imported water all over their local restaurants. They now have this amazing brand and product to call their own.

Cynthia Warren Design.

Designer, Illustrator, Calligrapher… you name the hat and Cynthia Warren can wear it. Extraordinarily well. Her pieces and clients are incredibly varied, but all retain the romantic elements that she does best. Looks like growing up in a massive victorian and having the influence of a woodworking father leads to brilliant design work!

Fallen Princesses.

I love seeing the flip side of the typical fairytale in the Fallen Princesses project from Dina Goldstein and JPG Magazine. Just goes to show, not even princesses are perfect…

“These works place Fairy Tale characters in modern day scenarios. In all of the images the Princess is placed in an environment that articulates her conflict. The ‘…happily ever after’ is replaced with a realistic outcome and addresses current issues.”

“The project was inspired by my observation of three-year-old girls, who were developing an interest in Disney’s Fairy tales. As a new mother I have been able to get a close up look at the phenomenon of young girls fascinated with Princesses and their desire to dress up like them. The Disney versions almost always have sad beginning, with an overbearing female villain, and the end is predictably a happy one. The Prince usually saves the day and makes the victimized young beauty into a Princess.”

The Daily Eat: Chopped Salad.

The first time I ordered a chopped salad I was all “Woah, that was the easiest salad I’ve ever eaten!” Because everything is all chopped up into bite-sized pieces it really requires minimal work on your part as far as the actual eating goes. And the beauty of a chopped salad is you put whatever the heck you want into it!
