Beach House.

All of my vacay time for this year is tied up between moving (which was, in fact, very un-vacation like) and my ten year high school reunion in September. With the price of gas and airline tickets I know lots of people are playing the staycation card this summer. It all sort of sounded like a load until I saw this personal beach house. Designed by Mary Bloch in 1962, the beach house is a little cabin woven in natural cane on rattan frame and aluminum structure then covered in waterproof canvas. If I had this little bit of privacy and shelter I think I could maybe, just maybe, pull it off.

Natsko Seki.

Artist Natsko Seki is a bit of a jack of all trades, dabbling in illustration, animation and graphic design. While all of her work knocks my socks off, her illustrations are what really blow me away. I love the bold color choices and collage-like feeling she lends to every piece.

50 Ways to Vote Obama.

Let me preface this with the fact that I am extremely anti-bumper sticker. But have you seen these? A bumper sticker for every state in honor of presidential hopeful Barack Obama. Some of them are actually really funny, while others (um, Oklahoma…) aren’t that great. Maybe I could just pretend I lived in a different state – Virginia anyone??

Choclatea.

Each Choclatea bar is a layered experiment containing high quality Belgian chocolate and finely crushed organic tea. Choose from twelve tastes ranging from very dark chocolate to white and pairings such as Pomegranate White Tea and Pistachio Green Tea. Each has its own illustrated identity which in turn becomes the focal point of the chocolate bar packaging on a simple white background.

A Little Hut 2009 Calendar.

Patricia Zapata (aka A Little Hut) had the best idea ever when she created her calendar as a PDF you purchase then download. I saw 2008’s, but was too slow to act. Before I knew it, it was March. Not this year – I was her first customer! I can’t wait to go all crafty on mine and get out all of the lovely little snippets of paper and things that I’ve set aside for just this sort of thing.

Michael Young.

Hong Kong-based designer Michael Young is the epitome of successful in his field. And so widely copied is his work that chances are you’ve come across it and not even known. I love that his work spans the gamut from large to small and everywhere in between. Young has only recently popped up on my radar, but now that my eyes are open I’ll definitely be keeping a look out for more from this amazing designer.

Renewable Clothing.

Fernando Brizio is on the cutting edge of design with his renewable clothing. By placing colored felt-tip markers into the pockets of his dresses their appearance changes over time. Within an hour or so the colored ink bleeds into the fabric and creates a one-off design for each wearing of the ensemble. The dress can then be washed and colored a different way for the next time!
