Penguin Classics + Project (RED).

I feel like I post something about Penguin almost every other week, but it’s just because they’re that on top of things. Like this collaboration with Project (RED) and a team of obviously talented designers. Eight covers were given the once over, replacing the classic black band with red and using a memorable quote from the book as the main visual.

Happy Weekend.

This week I’m loving…

I always use the monthly desktop calendar from Simple Blueprint – Joanna’s sister Josefina has the best style!

Not that I have a ton of it, but I’d love to put together a few of these DIY ribbon organizers

I think I might be handing out both these shortbread buttons and this sweet postcard come Valentine’s Day

I’ve never seen paint cans look this good and I’m willing to bet you haven’t either!

A few more Alt Summit recaps…

Download this pretty garland and start decorating for V-Day!

A great selection of free bookplates to help get your own personal library organized

And get all those recipes you’ve been printing out + collecting in one place while you’re at it!

Take-out menus, too…

You’ve seen The Fantastic Mr. Fox, now check out the making of the movie in this book

A pretty reminder that love really is all around us…

Yet another fun Valentine printable for everyone and anyone

Happy Weekend!

Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life.

Charley Harper is my favorite illustrator of all time, a bold statement I know. The book Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life, curated by Todd Oldham, has been around for a few years. It’s an over-sized, boxed edition and a little too pricey for my pockets. So you can imagine the magnitude of my joy when I spotted the recently released hardcover version for only $50 while browsing books yesterday. And wow, was it ever worth the wait! I perused to my hearts content over every page and more than once let out an Oh, wow. So happy to finally have this one as part of my collection.

Hue.

Hue, by interior designer Kelly Wearstler, is jam packed with the possibilities of color. Celebrity homes, hotels and even her own home (I’m such a voyeur!). Only 1,000 copies of this fabric-covered limited edition were printed and each one is signed and numbered. And one more thing has been added to my ever-growing Christmas List!

Never Use White Type on a Black Background.

For the design rebel in you check out Never Use White Type on a Black Background: And 50 Other Ridiculous Design Rules.

Design has many rules that claim to be big truths and full of wisdom. Designers all go by rules that work for them. However, their rules may not work for someone else, or for a particular piece of design work. When a rule is forced upon you, it stops working and becomes a joke, like “Never use a PC,” or “Leave it until the last minute,” or the most famous of them all, “Less is more.”

The problem is that every rule related to, or governing, design is ultimately ridiculous. In this book we have collected the most talked-about rules and the viewpoints of designers and thought leaders who live by them or hate them.
