The Geometry of Pasta

If I had to dream up a graphic designer’s ideal cookbook The Geometry of Pasta by designer Caz Hildebrand and chef Jacob Kenedy just might be it. The geometric black and white illustrations make this a must-have for your kitchen as well as your coffee table. The science, culture, and philosophy behind pasta and its myriad of shapes is paired with over 100 recipes from Kenedy to make this cookbook a masterpiece in every way. (via Pattern Pulp)

A Print Handbook For Designers

Being a designer is one thing, taking what you’ve created on screen and successfully translating it to print is another. There are so many rules and regulations (and opinions) that it can sometimes be overwhelming to remember it all. I love that A Print Handbook For Designers puts all of these little bits and pieces in one place, in fact I think it’s the best reference source of this type that I’ve seen in nine years of designing. It only costs about $10 which includes delivery, so if you’re a designer you really have no excuse left to not have your production spot on every single time. (via notcot)

Sunday-ness

PHOTO: via Audrey Hepburn Complex, no photographer source

I read this short editorial last week in The New York Times about the melancholy of Sunday, and thought there’s no better time to share than a Monday afternoon. It’s something I feel nearly every single week and could never hope to put into such beautiful prose. My favorite excerpt:

But Sunday evening brings a feeling completely unlike, say, Tuesday evening. The slower pace on the sidewalks feels like reluctance. The traffic seems almost melancholy. You suspect that the dogs, out for the last walk of the night, can smell the Sunday-ness of it all.

Live Now

I was lucky enough to win a copy of the book Live Now: Artful Messages of Hope, Happiness & Healing from For Me, For You this past week, and to say I’m impressed would be putting things way too mildly. When illustrator Eric Smith was diagnosed with cancer in spring of 2008 he started the Live Now Project, a site that compiles inspiring illustrated quotes from artists and designers the world over. This book is a printed compilation of the best of the best. The artwork is as honest as it is beautiful. My favorite little touch is that each and every page is perforated, so if you find one that resonates especially hard you can tear it out.
