Spring Has Sprung: Birdhouses + Bird Feeders

Tweet Resto Bar Bird Feeders

This trio of simple and chic bird feeders give off a unique  modern effect. Made of acrylic glass, they’re lightweight and transparent. Attach them to the window with a silicone suction cup and cotton strings – with a plastic element that intentionally resembles red berries – and watch small birds flock in!

DIY Modern Birdhouse

Use leftover boards that you probably already have gathering dust to create this modern birdhouse with clean lines and pop of color.

Beekman Bird Feeder

This modern birdhouse has an open floor plan with a modern gabled roof, a black walnut dowel that runs all the way through (providing plenty of indoor and outdoor seating), and enough space to entertain and feed the local birds all summer long. It’s entirely suspended by a USA made nylon cord and designed to last a lifetime.

DIY Glass Shade Bird Feeders

Only three supplies are needed to make these modern glass shade bird feeders.

Vintage Camper Birdhouse

The construction of the birdhouse is fairly simple, but the details leave endless possibilities with making this kit personal to you. The finished camper should be a great home for a small bird family to start. The little windows are the right size to peek in, but still give the new hatchlings security. There’s nothing wrong with just sitting this kit up on your favorite shelf to show off your handy work, too!

DIY Acorn Bird Feeder

Use affordable wooden bowls, sisal rope, and a soda bottle to make this playful acorn-shaped bird feeder. When the birds have finished eating the food you can create a new birdseed mold and hang it again!

Chip

Chip, designed by Olle and Ingrid Wingård, is a coat rack that’s perfect for the contemporary hallway. While your coats, scarves, and more can hang down below on a solid oak rail and hooks, the shelf-basket that sits atop can collect everything else brought in the front door.

2/ Case Study Table Top Mushroom Planter with Plinth
I love Case Study’s modern ceramic planters! This is the latest I’ve added to my collection, an interesting mushroom shape in their new mustard hue. In case you missed it we’re giving one away, too!

3/ The Simplicity Collection from Aera
This little home fragrance machine helps keep my home smelling pet-free, and their latest collection – citrus, lavender, white tea, sandalwood, cherry blossom, and vanilla – are the perfect scents for this transitional time of year.

4/ Saya Designs Taro Hair Stick
I’ve been using this gorgeous hair stick constantly in lieu of hair elastics. It helps keep my hair from breaking off and the dark, reddish rosewood paired with golden tamarind is just beautiful.

5/ Eastside Design Co. Enamel Pins
Are you an enamel pin junky, too? These little guys from a college friend’s shop are my latest additions.

Tips + Tricks: Plants (+ a Case Study Planter Giveaway)

If you’re anything like me you’re home is slowly being taken over by a jungle of houseplants. I don’t have the greenest thumb, but I try to help it thrive and grow as much as possible by attempting to give them the right amount of water, feeding them occasionally, and reading up on anything that might help me out. (And when one kicks the bucket I replace it and move on.)

Roland Kiyola Piano

She’s not cheap, but maaaaaaaan is she pretty. I’m of course talking about the Roland Kiyola Piano. It’s a MoMA Design Store exclusive, handcrafted in Japan by furniture-maker Karimoku. The modern designed digital instrument is minimal all around, but with a sound reminiscent of an acoustic model. I’ve never regretted ending my piano lessons more!

ZAKKIA

Australia has so much fantastic art and design happening at any given moment. ZAKKIA is on a mission to make the world a more beautiful place through good design, all of it crafted by hand. The Sydney-based studio was founded by former Swede Sara Lundgren, and it’s the place where the design she grew up around and her love of materials meet. The makers behind ZAKKIA’s wares are all family-owned studios located mostly in Vietnam as well as a few in India.

The material is really the guiding force behind many of our designs. Our inspiration often comes from a material’s texture, or thinking about using a material in a way that hasn’t been done before. You will never find anything fussy about our designs. We find beauty in function and we always try to design products that can be used in multiple ways in many rooms of your home.
