Much Love To You Printable

Much-Love-to-You-Colore-Grace-1-Design-Crush

I’ve spent the last year watching my friend Colore’s calligraphy talent go from beginner to her own beautiful style. While she’s usually busy creating over on her site – Colore’ Grace – today she’s sharing a Valentine’s Day card printable with us. The sentiment of ‘much love to you’ is just about the perfect thought for everyone on February 14th. It’s not terribly sentimental or cliche so print them out for your friends, your family – anyone who has a special place in your heart that you wish to know you’re thinking of them come Valentine’s Day.

Fictional characters and real life persons, dead or alive, all are fair game in Patrik Svensson‘s latest project. A visual element associated with each name is integrated into their name, some more subtle than others. (To purchase prints, email the the artist at patrik@psillustration.se)

Texas Style Council 2015

One of my favorite things is when you click with someone the instant you meet. That’s basically what happened while waiting for a delayed flight to Salt Lake City last month when I met Indiana Adams. She’s a fellow blogger and the brainchild behind the Texas Style Council conference.

I’d heard about TxSC in the past, but sort of assumed – due to the name – that it was for the fashion crowd. Turns out it’s actually for female lifestyle bloggers, as well as business owners and independent designers in women-centric industries who use new media to connect with readers and customers. If that’s not right up my alley I’m not exactly sure what is.

Long story short, I’m now on board to be a part of 2015‘s TxSC next month! This year’s conference is going back to basics and being held at Camp Texlake, a Girl Scout camp about 45 minutes outside of Austin in one of my favorite places on earth – Texas hill country. We’ll be staying in dormitories and doing awesome things like sitting around bonfires and watching midnight movies in between all of the creating, connecting, and conquering that will fill our days.

If all of this sounds like something you want to be a part of you can check out the speakers and staff, peek at the schedule, then register here! Hope to see you in Spicewood next month!

The Tipsy Writer

Tipsy Writer-1-Design Crush

The Tipsy Writer is basically a Weeble for the adult set… you remember what a Weeble is, yes?. The penholder’s spherical weight is made up of a half brass, half wooden ball and the entire set up is half sculpture, half plaything. What a great addition to any desk!

Yelena Bryksenkova

Yelena Bryksenkova-1-Design Crush

I’ve fallen fast in love with Yelena Bryksenkova‘s watercolor and gouache paintings. Her reading ladies just look so relaxed and cozy that I’d love to crawl right in next to them and see what’s so interesting on those pages. Not to mention CATS! and DANCE PARTIES! Yelena has both original pieces and plenty of prints available in her shop, so you should probably head over before I buy her out. (You think I’m kidding?)

Plant Talkers

Another of my plants bit the dust last week, A CACTUS. It became mushy even though I was barely watering it. So now I’m thinking maybe that particular species of flora and I just don’t get along since it’s the second I’ve sent to the grave. These Plant Talkers Plant Labels seem like perfect timing, now if only the little guys could talk.

Breakfast in Bed + After Dinner Dessert

When it comes to your February love game there are plenty of ways to go, but the most important is probably food. You know the old adage, the way to someone’s heart is through their stomach? Well I’m a firm believe in it. And as you might know, the best times to satiate one’s appetite is first thing in the morning or last thing at night. But no worries because I’ve got you covered with a dozen recipes for breakfast in bed and another dozen for after dinner dessert. Go forth into thine kitchen!

#365lyrics: January Playlist

#365lyrics-January playlist-Design Crush

I love introducing people to new artists and music, but I’ve been in a little bit of a rut which is partly what helped inspire my Instagram project for 2015 – #365lyrics. If you’ve been following @designcrush over there, then you’ve probably noticed the (almost) daily handwritten lyrics popping up. Followers requested (demanded?) a playlist, so I’ve decided to create one with all of the fantastic musical artists featured at the close of each month. Here’s the first with one of my favorite January Instagram shots above and a few of my favorite lyrics from the month below. Enjoy listening to #365lyrics: January!

State Plates Project

State Plates Project-1-Design Crush

License plate design is clearly very niche, very design by committee, and very bad. Usually. As the folks behind the State Plates Project say, “Over the past 50 years, the American license plate has taken a turn for the worst. We’re here to change that.” Fifty designers, fifty states, fifty license plates I wish were the real deal.
