Today we’re talking about a treat that’s somehow both traditional and trendy all at once – the popsicle! I have very vivid memories of spending hot days at my great aunt’s pool, coming inside to cool down and argue with my cousins over who got a banana popsicle and who got a chocolate one from the bulk bag she bought at the grocery store. All I know is it’s a good thing some of these flavors weren’t an option back then, or there would have been some hair pulling! We’ve included a few boozy options for the adults below, so take note.

Rebecca Roke‘s architectural background sure does come in handy when designing her line of accessories for women. Her debut series reference celebratory leis, and are made individually from Roke’s collection of Japanese kimono silks, Indian cottons, and paper silks. Each crisply folded colorway is available in a limited edition of 20.

I was lucky enough to receive The Pamela Necklace – each one is named after their maker – by Totem Color Block. It’s a fresh, fun, and feminine pastel piece that pairs well with the plethora of whites, blacks, and neutrals I tend to wear most.
Surprisingly shop owner Pamela Foeckler has been designing jewelry for just over a year after a decade of working as an art conservationist. Her minimal and colorful aesthetic were honed while earning her degree in sculptural and architectural history, and what was once deemed too “eccentric” now lends itself well to her jewelry designs.

As the United States celebrates her 238 birthday I’d say she still looks pretty damn good. So we’ll all celebrate here in the U.S. by firing up the grill and cooking everything in sight, hanging out in blazing temperatures while pretending not to sweat, and watching fireworks light up the night sky being extra thankful that the holiday falls on a Friday this year. Toronto-based artist Cathy Daley works almost exclusively with black pastel on translucent vellum for her drawings, making the women in black tights that she prefers as subject matter almost seem to float in space. I love the magical, messy end result.
Drawing on persistent cultural images inspired by ballerina tutus, the garb of fairy-tale princesses and Barbie doll couture, my work investigates childhood memories of what it means to be female in Western culture and explores cultural representation of the feminine and the body. The drawings mine contemporary vocabularies of glamour, fashion, popular culture, cartoons, street signage, Hollywood cinema, fairy tales, and mythology, to examine the iconography of the feminine as it exists in the cultural imaginary, personal memory, and fantasy.
