Vege-table

Vege_table - Seletti

I have a small, but ever-growing, collection of wooden cutting boards. Most are interesting because of the type of wood they’re made from or their shape, and I’m thinking that one of these just released Vege_table cutting boards from Seletti would make a fantastic addition. The tomato is my favorite!

Valentines – Part 1

Each and every year I feel like Valentine’s Day sneaks up on us. First there’s the rush of the holidays, then the sigh of relief after New Year’s, then BAM! Valentine’s Day. It’s less than a month away and for once I feel kinda sorta on top of it, I’ve even purchased a few cards!

Tradition, Construction

PASTArchitecture-1-Design Crush

Pasta is definitely one of my weaknesses, but in so far as art goes I’ve never given it much thought beyond camp crafts. Luckily set designer Gemma Tickle and photographer Aaron Tilley have, creating five different settings with five different kinds of pasta in Tradizione, Costruzione – Italian for Tradition, Construction – in The Gourmand. The project pays homage to Italian architecture and decorative elements.

Bundle Up in a Blanket

As I write this I’m trying to ignore the buds i saw on the tree in my front yard this morning. In January. I’m so not okay with that, I haven’t had nearly enough time in front of my fireplace yet this winter. Inside I’m keeping it as cozy as possible despite nature’s warnings – spicy candles, pots of soup, and of course plenty of blankets to bundle up in.

Eliza Bennett

Eliza Bennett-1-Design Crush

Today’s featured artist is definitely not for the faint of heart. Meet Eliza Bennett who used own skin to create an embroidered sculpture entitled A woman’s work is never done. But there is a point aside from the shock effect, Eliza aims to chronicle the effects of labor intensive work, while drawing attention to low paid jobs such as cleaning, caring, and catering, all of which are traditionally considered to be gender specific towards women through the piece.

Project Decorate + a Giveaway!

Project Decorate-4-Design Crush

It’s no secret that I love a good mood board or collage, and today I’m happy to share that I’m partnering with Polyvore for Project Decorate! You probably know the site best for their super easy drag-and-drop fashion boards (aka “sets”), but Polyvore is expanding into home decor and interior design. Absolutely perfect for those of us who consider creating dream homes a hobby, as well as those who do it for a living. You can  even follow me if we have similar taste.

Create a room, an inspiration board, or an entire home in a few clicks of your mouse. I’ve already pulled together a living room, bedroom, dining room, and kitchen goods that are tugging at my checking account along with a set that tells you a little bit about my style aesthetic. Not only was it fun, it’s completely addicting. There’s even an app if you need to get your fix on the go!

Now here’s the best part – visit my contest page, create a set about Modern + Bright style, and you just may win one of two $500 West Elm gift cards! That’s right, we’re giving away a total of $1,000 for you to feather your nest. So get to creating a Polyvore set with some of the pieces I’ve selected as part of my collection and be sure to tag it with #ProjectDecorate. Click here to enter and good luck!
