Evelin Kasakov

Evelin Kasakov-1-Design Crush

Evelin Kasakov‘s background in advertising and graphic design lends itself extremely well to her current line of work – CMYK embroidery based on the four colours used in traditional offset printing. Evelin uses her skills in typography, grid systems and design techniques to challenge the preconceptions of embroidery as we know it.

Woodland Creatures Masks

Wood Creature Masks-2-Design Crush

With Halloween being just over a month away costumes and disguises are on everyone’s minds. These colorful and creative woodland creatures masks from Keely O’Brien of (kiss me)go are so good (as is her entire shop). Each mask is a print of an original collage made of sturdy card and cotton twine. Choose from a sweet old owl, a galactic wolf, a gentle black bear, a trickster coyote, and an elegant fox.

Esther Lobo

Esther Lobo-1-Design Crush

Esther Lobo, aka FahLoSue, creates art inspired by ink blot Rorschach tests. But instead of ink, Lobo relies on different foods for her Rorschach project. She creates each piece by smearing yogurt, ice cream, peanut butter, and other malleable foods onto plastic plates, then folds each one in half. Using no post-production on her photos, Lobo creates these symmetrical images and leaves the rest to our psyches.

Defne Tesal-1-Design Crush

Defne Tesal just might be the reigning queen of embroidered topography! I love so many things about her style – the color palettes, the varied direction of the thread, even the subject matter. Some of the prettiest glaciers, roads, and fields I’ve ever seen. (via The Jealous Curator)

Jaime Derringer

Jaime Derringer-1-Design Crush

Jaime Derringer-2-Design Crush

You might know Jaime Derringer as the founder and executive editor of the mega-blog Design Milk, but she’s also a ridiculously talented artist in her own right. After taking a bit of a break for the birth of her daughter, Jaime picked up her art again at the start of 2013 with wild abandon with daily explorations in her A Shape a Day Project, endless line drawings, and intense multimedia pieces. Jaime is also a close friend of mine, and I love how her mixed media creations thrive on happy accidents – the exact opposite of her Type A personality. You can purchase Jaime’s work through her Etsy shop or Society6, and I know prints will be happening sooner than later!
