Crushing on Evelin Kasikov

Hello! This is Danielle from The Jealous Curator, just popping in while Kelly is gallivanting around Milan! I write about contemporary art, but I’m a graphic designer by day. I wanted to find something that combined those two worlds for my guest post, and I think I’ve got the perfect thing:

Yep, hand-stitched CMYK! Seriously. I’m not sure how London based artist Evelin Kasikov has the patience to do this work, but she does, and she does it beautifully!

Gah! CMYK, typography, AND embroidery. Love! The only thing more impressive would be the entire alphabet. Oh, hang on a second:

Amazing. And if that wasn’t enough, how about these embroidered portraits:

Insane. And that, my Design Crush friends, is why I’m jealous of Evelin! Sigh.

Claire Oswalt

These moveable wooden dolls by artist Claire Oswalt are like paper dolls on steroids! The muted tones and light illustrating hand make you really focus on the shapes presented. And I’m so happy she went with multiples in the pieces. One would still be incredible but when grouped they almost take on a semi-creepy clone vibe which I love. (via the Jealous Curator)

Daré alla Lucé

Ethereal. Ghostly. Surreal. Daré alla Lucé is all of these things and more to the casual observer. I love this series of slightly altered photos by artist Amy Friend.

“Through small deliberate interventions, I altered these vintage images, allowing light to pass through them. (After all, photographs are made possible with light.) In a literal and somewhat playful manner, I aimed to give the photographs back to the light, hence the title of the series, Daré alla Lucé, an Italian phrase used to describe the moment of birth.”
