Shabd Magic Jar Dye Kit

Shad Magic Jar Dye Kit-1-Design Crush

Basically the instant I saw the Shabd Magic Jar Dye Kit it jumped onto my Christmas list (which is getting quite long, just in case you were wondering). This magical all-in-one dye kit comes with a silk crepe de chine scarf and permanent non-toxic dyes and fixatives, all packed inside a reusable glass jar. Just add water, practice being patient for one hour, and then see the results. So much fun! The kits are available in amethyst, copper, jade, and quartz.

It seems as though summer knew just the right moment to exit stage left this year. Autumn weather showed up this past Saturday, ironically on time considering my friend Andrew hosted an End of Summer party Friday evening. Son of a Sailor

Son of a Sailor-1-Design Crush

A lot of great things have happened since we last checked in with Son of a Sailor back in 2013. I had a chance to meet William Knopp and Jessica Tata, the husband and wife team behind it all, earlier this month and they clued me in to the evolution of their shop. Lots of new jewelry and accessories rich with organic materials and inspired by geometry are making their faces known, along with fun pieces like wooden yo-yos, leather playing card cases, and beautiful cutting boards. It’s safe to say that my crush is only growing!

Sunglasses are my main accessory come summer – forget the armful of bracelets, the layered necklaces, and the fingers stacked in rings. I want simple, I want minimal, and I want interesting. That’s one reason I’m digging Mosevic‘s denim sunglasses. The Cornwall, England company seals six to ten layers of the stuff together to create their Solid Denim line.

The BlkSmith Co.

The BlkSmith Co.-1-Design Crush

David M. Smith is the self-described nostalgic romantic behind San Francisco’s The BlkSmith Co. Getting his hands dirty and creating things that will outlast him are both goals, while his mantra is Live fast, die often. When not designing identities, lettering, and illustrations David can be found making patches, pins, prints, and more.
