Pitchers + Jugs

I’ve been taking stock of serving vessels that I have in the house as holiday entertaining season starts to draw near. By putting out pitchers of water, decanters of wine, and jugs of cream for coffee you’re sure to save yourself time and make your guests feel very much at home. No one needs to ask about refills when it’s serve yourself!

Christie MacLean

Portland photographer Christie MacLean did a fun take on the Victorian era concept of ghost mother portraits, using pets in place of children. Back in the day exposure times were lengthy, and babies and small children are notoriously difficult to keep still. Photographers would hide the mother, usually under draped fabric, so that they could hold the kiddo in an attempt to minimize movement. I love the way the relationship between pet and owner is so obvious in each of Christie’s photographs in this project, brilliant idea.

Folklore, nostalgia, and the past are all running themes in Kreh Mellick‘s fantastic works of art. I’m hard pressed to choose between her mirrored illustrations and the unexpected monochromatic red pieces, each telling a fictional story.

Levi’s Denim Sherpa Jacket

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve left the house lately only to regret not grabbing a jacket. It’s just that time of year where weather is unpredictable and temperatures can change in a matter of minutes. My go-tos this season are my jean, leather, army jackets – how about yours?

Addison Eaton / Caves

addison-eaton-1-design-crush

Addison Eaton is a wearer of many hats – artist, illustrator, and designer. Essentially a creator of all the things. I love his use of color, especially in the Caves series. In it Eaton exercised repeatedly painting and drawing the same image. There’s a lesson that can be applied to many levels of life right there, don’t you agree?

Pretty Planters

October may not seem like the obvious time to repot houseplants to you, but it’s the time my propagated succulents chose for me. I’ve been babying a bunch on my kitchen windowsill for nearly a year and they’ve just about outgrown their current digs. I like to look at planters as more of a sculptural investment because they can be so. darn. expensive, but I also won’t hesitate at using pretty teacups, latte bowls, or ramekins – be resourceful!
