Michel El Hachem

michel-el-hachem-1-design-crush

Beirut-based artist Michel El Hachem‘s skull and skeletal studies are inspired by Van Gogh’s painting Skull of a Skeleton with Burning Cigarette. Bones being something that both inspire fear and knowledge in humans, each piece created with oil on canvas is equal parts macabre and fascinating.

Cozy Floor Seating

I entertain more during autumn and winter than the warmer seasons, and while my dining room comfortably seats eight my living room is lacking places to plop down because of its layout. That’s where moveable floor seating comes into play. Floor cushions can be tucked under a coffee table or couch, while poufs and more substantial pieces placed in corners or other rooms and taken out when needed. It doesn’t hurt that each and every piece is perfectly soft and cushiony, welcoming guests to cozy up and stay awhile.

Haand

haand-1-design-crush

The first thing I noticed about Haand‘s pottery pieces is that several can be used in multiple ways – kitchen, bedroom dresser, dining table, and more. Each piece is designed by Mark Warren and crafted by hand in Eli Whitney, North Carolina at the Haand workshop by a small team of dedicated makers. The care and attention paid to each “farmhouse futuristic” piece is abundantly clear.

Denim Skirts

Denim high Waisted Mini Skirt with Raw Hem

I never tossed my last jean skirt from the early aughts, but it was definitely relegated to the back of my closet. Anyone else? The on and off classic is surging back with a vengeance this autumn in a bevy of new styles – raw hemmed, step hemmed, button up, zip up – as well as old favorites. Dress it up or dress it down, but definitely make good use of your denim skirt this season!

Angela Deane / Ghost Photographs

angela-deane-1-design-crush

IT’S OCTOBER! And I’m ready to add some extra horror-themed art to the mix. Some silly, some unnerving, all amazing. Today it’s by way of Angela Deane‘s mixed media Ghost Photographs, found photos painted with acrylic and given a whole new lease on life as Deane explores the idea of having memories. Ghosts driving, ghosts swimming, you really need to check out the extensive ongoing project for yourself – there are even a few witches thrown in for good measure.

Ito Bindery

ito-bindery-1-design-crush

As their name might suggest, Ito Bindery got their start 70 years ago as a bookbinding company. Based out of Tokyo, these guys also manage to create some of the sleekest drawing pads and memoblocks I’ve seen. If you like a clutter-free workspace I’m betting you’ll love these supplies just as much as I do.

Take a Whiff of These Fragrances

You’re probably changing up your wardrobe for autumn, but have you thought about changing up your fragrance? Warm weather scents tend to be lighter, more floral or fruity. While cool weather scents can afford to be a bit stronger, think musks and earthy undertones. Do you change your scent with the seasons?
