Aditi Kapur / The Theory of Colours

 

Aditi Kapur‘s The Theory of Colours concept was inspired by the unlikely combination of her 10-month-old niece and Drake’s Hotline Bling video. The vivid, rich colors had her rapt and it got Aditi wanting to create something interactive, combining color theory and gel films.

“The Theory Of Colours is the interaction between geometric artworks and gel papers, producing fascinating results with colours that are as much fun as they are a learning experience for kids and adults alike. The process of using different combinations of gel papers with the artwork to arrive at a visual answer makes the prospect especially exciting for kids, owing to how naturally inquisitive they are.”

Mélanie Bourget

 

French sculptor Mélanie Bourget‘s ceramic busts and faces are so full of personality that it’s difficult believing they aren’t about to start a conversation with you. Her style straddles the line between realism and fantasy, and I’d love to hear the stories each one has to tell.

International Women’s Day / A Day Without A Woman

I’ve gone back and forth in my head for days over whether or not I would actively participate in International Women’s Day and #DayWithoutAWoman. I’m a feminist, I believe in equal rights, I fight for equal wages and so much more, but something about the marked day felt… privileged? The idea of opting out of my normal Wednesday work duties when so many women (so many people!) cannot afford to take a day off felt… wrong?

And that’s the reason I decided to take part, actually. In support of gender-oppressed people who want better lives, who work their asses off just to make ends meet, who deserve to be treated as equally as you, me, and our so-called president.

I won’t be posting and if I do any shopping it will be with small, women- and minority-owned businesses. If you’re not able to take the day off from work but still want to participate you can show your support by wearing red. Coil + Drift

 

Brooklyn-based Coil + Drift was founded in 2014 by John Sorensen-Jolink, an acclaimed modern dancer-turned-designer. The studio creates contemporary furniture, lighting, and accessories with a focus on form, sustainability, and function. Sorensen-Jolink taught himself how to design in an attempt to further understand space and the objects within them. I’m looking forward to keeping an eye on what is for sure an up and coming brand!

Anna McNeil

 

Anna McNeil‘s paintings are perfect parts abstraction and realism, the division sign drawn with her paintbrush. In each piece she’s after your perception of a given moment, which is most likely informed by your own memory of experiences. You create the narrative from there, she just manipulates it a little.
