Mid-Century Modern inspired food art. Well, it just doesn’t get much better than that! San Francisco-based artist Jen Kindell‘s signed and numbered prints are each hand pulled using water based inks and recycled French paper. In my dreamworld I’d have a dining room with a cathedral ceiling where I could hang every one from the floor all the way up!

Design Crush + Dodge Dart

I spent the last week of July tooling around OKC in a brand spankin’ new 2013 Dodge Dart. And let me tell you, this machine is much more high tech than its predecessor. It has loads of sleek lines and style from front to back and everywhere in between, along with the biggest dash touchscreen I’ve ever seen. Click over to Dodge’s REDLINE blog to see what kind of road trip I took it on and what we saw along the way!

Claire Softley-1-Design Crush

UK artist Claire Softley‘s work rides the rail of 2D versus 3D to my eyes, and I love that. These mildly creepy cats are my favorite (of course), but the majority of Claire’s pieces just make me feel good. And while art and creativity in general don’t always need to make me feel like a shiny happy person, I’m glad that hers does. (via The Jealous Curator)

Skin & Bones

Skin&Bones-1-Design Crush

I first shared Skin & Bones waaay back in 2010 (wow, that really does feel like ages ago!). It’s always fun to follow up on people/shops/etc after a few years, so when founder Heidi touched base with me a few weeks ago I couldn’t wait to see the evolution.

Skin & Bones has grown from one magical oil to four incredible-smelling organic unisex products. There’s the cleanser and moisturizer, both meant to be used on both face and body. The salve that can act as everything from lip balm to dry spot remedy to solid cologne. There’s even a candle. All of Skin & Bone’s products smell delicious thanks to a finely tuned mix of ylang yang, rosewood, lemon, frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood, jasmine, grapefruit, and cedarwood essential oils. I love that in a world full of white bottles they went with a super sleek black glass for everything. Seriously, it’s all just so good. 52 Weeks of Dogs

ShihTzuProductPhoto

Stacie Bloomfield (of Gingiber fame) has been busy, illustrating one dog breed a week for all of 2013 for her 52 Weeks of Dogs project. Yes the dogs are adorable and yes Stacie is an extremely talented lady. But what I’m most excited about is that prints are available for sale in her shop, and a portion of every sale is being donated to The Humane Society!

I was really happy to see that UPPERCASE has released Work/Life 3, this time focusing on illustrators’ lifestyles in intimate detail and finding out what it takes to stay creative 24/7. Featuring 100 artists from around the world, Work/Life 3 began when each illustrator was given a detailed questionnaire containing thirty questions that ranged from the simple (What inspires you?) to the detailed (How is your creative vision expressed through your work). After evaluating the answers, UPPERCASE editor Janine Vangool crafted an illustration assignment specific to each illustrator’s interests and personal story that best highlights their unique talents. The end result is the definition of creativity.

Taste Tour: POPS

Taste-Tour-POPS-1-Design-Crush

It’s been a few months since our last Taste Tour and I’m happy to break the silence with POPS, a place that you have to make a stop at if you’re ever in or driving through Oklahoma City.

Taste-Tour-POPS-2-Design-Crush

POPS is on Route 66 just off of I-35, and you’ll know you’re there when you spot this gigantic 66′ tall pop bottle and straw sculpture. When the sun sets its LED lights kick on and the ensuing light show is something to behold.

Taste-Tour-POPS-3-Design-Crush

The sculpture is a hint at what lies inside, and the lined glass walls of POPS is the big reveal – over 600 varieties of pop! Over 1,000 bottles line the shelves on two of the building’s four walls.

POPS also has a great 50s style diner menu, including a Shake Shop that features ten hand-dipped flavors and endless float options.

Taste-Tour-POPS-7-Design-Crush

The walls of POPS are cantilevered, and several of the dining tables sit directly under them giving a great overhead view. (If you look closely you can see the glue that holds the display bottles in place and keeping them safe from grabby hands!)

The entire site of POPS is really something to experience. So if you ever find yourself nearby take the time to stop in.
