Book Bars
L.A. is definitely onto something with its current trend of literary bars. I want in on this.

Big Ones, Small Ones by Kathy~
Like I mentioned yesterday morning, I’ll be heading to PA for the second time in less than a month tomorrow. This time it’s to celebrate Orthodox Christmas with my mom’s side of the family. And did I mention just how early my flight is? Before the sun comes up early. Before human beings are supposed to be awake early. So early that I will literally be in physical pain for the rest of the day. Early. But I adore this side of my family and am looking forward to drinking copious amounts of alcohol, sharing family stories and gossip, and being with people who make me feel loved.
Until I return to the blog next Monday, here are a few bits and pieces of awesome…
+ Vintage + Mugs + the Luck of the Draw = Order of Mug
+ Loving this Art on the Streets series
+ This New Year’s post is still resonating with me
+ Charley Harper’s beautiful illustrations come to life in this iPad app
+ Big brands made minimal
+ Oh, Fuuuuuudge! Yes, it’s really fudge.
+ A great series from The Lil Bee

Now this is how you take a daily planner to the next level, my friends! Julie Joliat’s agenda 2011 combines monthly and weekly calendars with connect the dots, famous works of art, maps, holidays, wine charts, and who even knows what else. Functional Swiss minimalism strikes again! {via swissmiss}

I typically lean towards sans serif fonts as a designer, but in this case the serif totally wins.
I’ve ogled Egg Press’s pretty patterns for as long as I can remember, so when they gave me the heads up that they were teaming up with Blue Sky to create a line of exclusive calendars for Target I was really excited. It’s always nice to start off a new year with a clean slate. And everything from wall calendars to planners are on Target’s shelves right this very second. Might I suggest snapping one or three up before they sell out? Because they will.

Holy realism. Gregory Thielker’s Under the unminding sky series are oil paintings, not photographs. Worth a second look, yes?
Posted In create, paintingIt’s funny to say, but dish towels are a big trend right now. Beautifully designed ones are everywhere. And any time there’s a clever way to squeeze more art into my life I’m on board. Charlotte Farmer partnered with To Dry For on these, the latest (maybe slightly too late) addition to my Christmas List. {via Eat Drink Chic}
Posted In create, house and home, illustration, kitchen+ What a clever idea, a holiday Sputnik mobile.
+ Have you seen this art made entirely out of typewriter letters and punctuation marks? Genius.
+ Cute holiday cookie stencils to download.
+ Thinking about this recipe for Bacon and Egg Soup!
+ If you’re late on your holiday cards maybe consider sending out Happy New Year cards instead.
+ Check out The Twelve Terrors of Christmas by John Updike and Edward Gorey. Love it.
+ Really want to check out this bar.
+ I’ve been reading this poem almost daily for the past two weeks.
+ Love this father/son art blog.
+ Pouring through this from What Katie Ate.
