I’m completely enamored with paintings of women lately, the more mysterious the better. Enter Clare Elsaesser and her beautiful ladies. Clare’s original paintings as well as giclée prints are available in her Etsy shop, each one just as full of expressive and textured brushstrokes as the last.

You should know by now that if you work with a palette that draws my attention you’ve already won half the battle. Jenny Andrews Anderson is no exception to that statement with colors that make me want to dive right into her perfectly balanced abstracts. I love that each one seems to have one unexpected element – a line through the center or a swipe of unexpected color.
I’ve fallen fast in love with Yelena Bryksenkova‘s watercolor and gouache paintings. Her reading ladies just look so relaxed and cozy that I’d love to crawl right in next to them and see what’s so interesting on those pages. Not to mention CATS! and DANCE PARTIES! Yelena has both original pieces and plenty of prints available in her shop, so you should probably head over before I buy her out. (You think I’m kidding?)
Astrology and horoscopes have always been fascinating to me, and by extent gemology. Naomi Ernest‘s birthstone series partners the structure of rigid, structural ink lines with freeform, organic watercolor. I love the juxtaposition. Lars Daniel Rehn‘s paintings of a growing village are so, so good. Each one reveals different developments – building roads, fighting illnesses, even being chased by birds of prey. A few of the pieces can’t be seen unless under a UV light, which Rehn uses in his studio. The only constant is a ground covered in snow.
Oscar Delmar certainly knows how to portray feeling alive, I’d say. His watercolor and graphite lips capture seduction series – Sexual Healing – and all that follows in perfectly sexy detail.

Lately I’ve been very drawn to black and white illustrations with an edge about them. Kaye Blegvad‘s colorless pieces – as well as those with just a hit of hue – make me extremely happy. Kaye splits her time between her native London and Brooklyn, and boasts an impressive client list: The New York Times, Kinfolk Magazine, Rookie, Lucky Magazine, Real Simple Magazine, and BUST Magazine among others.
I can’t find a lot of backstory or bio for artist Olivier Umecker, but I think sometimes that’s best.
I know he’s French. I know he has a great eye for spatial placement. And I know his taste in color palettes is balanced and interesting.
That should do for now.
