Embroidery Thread

Ever since making these necklaces for some friends I’ve been flat-out obsessed with embroidery thread. My only tryst with it in the past was short-lived, in the form of 6th grade bracelet making. In fact, some of the thread I used on my necklaces was from the 6th grade. (No joke. It’s in a box with my name on it.) All of a sudden the possibilities seem limitless.

Hot Cross Buns

PHOTO: Mandy Mortimer/What the Fruitcake?!

I think this is the spring where I face my fear of making bread. I don’t know what it is that makes me shy away. Maybe it’s the yeast. Or the waiting game for it to rise. But Hot Cross Buns are near the top of my foodgasm list and this recipe looks more or less conquerable. No fear.

The Flavour Thesaurus

PHOTO + LINK: Amy Moss, Eat Drink Chic

I can’t lie, what first drew me to The Flavour Thesaurus was the graphic cover. But after reading a few reviews on Niki Segnit’s book I was drawn towards the concept, which examines foods by flavor. Segnit teaches you about pairing flavors, what to do with that extra whatever you have lying around, and basically how to become your own on-the-fly chef. It’s also really well organized, set up along the format of Roget’s College Thesaurus. (Which, FYI, I won a copy of in the 5th grade Spelling Bee.)

Geo-Birdhouse

Geodesic domes are everywhere, surely the birds should have their own! The design, by Kelly Lamb, makes a perfect nesting spot for small species and has an easy access door for cleaning between seasons.

Donuts vs Doughnuts

The donut vs doughnut debate is an old one, I usually go with the latter. What I’m more concerned about is making these yummy little lumps of dough their own food group. I would own it. (As always, click on the image to be taken to the recipe.)
