The Daily Eat: Cool Cucumber Soup.

Cucumbers are one of my favorite sumer veggies. I love the crispness and mild flavor. Cucumber season isn’t here quite yet, but I thought I’d get your summer recipe wheels a-turnin’ with Cucumber Week.

I think I’ve only eaten a cold soup maybe, oh, once in my lifetime. They’re all over the place, just not on my table. But I’m thinking that could change with this recipe for Cool Cucumber Soup. I love the simple ingredients used and that it probably packs a mean flavor punch.

The Daily Eat: Mango Gingerbread with Macadamia Nut Streusel..

I love the flavors in gingerbread, so I can only imagine that the addition of mangoes and macadamia nuts would make it just that much better!

PS: The Daily Eat has really turned into a labor of love. I’ve been dieting for about a week and a half now (-6 lbs!) and all food that I can’t eat looks that much better! Anything for you though. No, really. My suffering is nothing as long as you all have some food porn to look at! (I kid, I kid.)

athas!

I’ve fallen in love for the day. An ultra-classy reinterpretation of the iconic Bic pen, athas! pens are a stylish version of the original plastic design. Each one is signed and numbered and available for engraving, making them the perfect gift. athas! even kept the Bic pen base, so refilling the ink is a cinch. Available in steel, brass, silver and gold.

On the Rocks: Caribbean Cosmopolitan.

This Caribbean Cosmo looks dangerously consumable!

– 15 ml fresh lime juice
– 8 ml pineapple juice
– 8 ml cranberry juice
– Angostura Bitters, to taste (I used 3 drops)

Roxy + Peanut.

Lately I’ve been hearing some mumbled meows around the house. From what I can gather there’s a little bit of passive aggressive behavior going on (ignoring the litter box in favor of other areas and who knows what else) due to lack of blog fame.

Some other blogger’s pets (Paco, Morran, Chuck and nameless others) get screen time and, well, Roxy and Peanut don’t. I need to remedy this asap for the sake of my carpeting, so I’ll skip right to the introductions.

Name + Origin: Roxy, after the clothing line for surfers, natch
How We Met: given to me by my mom’s neighbors – straight from a farm in Arkansas!
Birthday + Sign: August 10 + Leo
Hobbies: sleeping, cleaning herself, hacking up hairballs from previous activity, flopping, chattering
Likes: lasers, bubbles, salty snack foods
Dislikes: when Peanut tries to get some lovin’, strangers
Arch-nemesis: my mom’s cat, Jack

Name + Origin: Peanut, the vet named him after a childhood pet
How We Met: adopted from Roxy’s vet after being abused and abandoned
Birthday + Sign: July 4 (approx.) + Cancer
Hobbies: keeping watch over the yard, acting as a garbage disposal for unwatched food, fetch, playing in water (I promise he’s a cat)
Likes: toys, bird watching, eating peoples’ hair, attacking Roxy
Dislikes: dairy, wearing hats, the doorbell
Arch-nemesis: the vacuum

So now, hopefully, we have all that cleared up. Welcome to Design Crush, Roxy and Peanut. You make my every day so much better.

Minimalist Playroom.

I love a good teepee. Only I didn’t realize I loved a good teepee until I came across this room. One question: How lucky is this kid?

The stark white, modern-looking teepee/playhouse would be the perfect place to crawl into with a favorite book. And that little table is fantastic – I’d sit down with my coloring book and get to work! I’m really digging how purposely unfinished everything seems – the natural wood dollhouse, the rustic wood elements on the walls and even the white walls themselves. The mobiles are the perfect touch of color in this otherwise unblemished room.
