By the time you’re reading this I’ll be Seattle-bound for a little event I’ve been invited to attend. I’ve never been to the PNW before and am incredibly stoked. Not only to get to do a few awesome things I’d never be able to do otherwise, but also to meet up with some bloggers and my BFF from junior high during the two days I’ll be in town. This girl’s got a good life. On that note, I’m leaving you with an extremely fantastic/extended list of links you’ll want to be sure and click on.

One thing that I absolutely loved about spending my first 18 years in western PA was the plethora of culturally diverse food right at my fingertips. Italian, Polish, Russian, you name it. It wasn’t until I left and went to college that I realized those sorts of options weren’t everywhere. Each summer there’s even a festival in Ambridge, PA – a few towns over from where I grew up – called Nationality Days with booth after booth of different foods, all in one glorious location. Now that I’ve made myself a little homesick I’ll leave you to drool over these tasty Greek-inspired dishes. And as always, just click on the link to be taken to the recipe.

Posted In recipesThe past few summers – and who knows how many before that – have been swept up in a frenzy of popsicles. (As evidenced here and here.) No one can seem to get enough, and the migration of Mexican paletas making their way further north is only driving the craze. This cookbook, Paletas: Authentic Recipes for Mexican Ice Pops, Shaved Ice & Aguas Frescas, is on my MUST BUY list for sure.

If my weaknesses for cocktails, illustrations, and cookbooks all got together and had a baby (don’t think about it too hard) it would come out as this book.
An Illustrated Guide to Cocktails, by Orr Shtuhl and Elizabeth Graeber, tells the tales of the heyday of cocktails, from the origin of the margarita to the grandeur of the first celebrity bartender with some modern twists. Along the way, this fun, handheld guide is dabbled with beautiful illustrations and, of course, recipes.

Posted In accessories, bags, happy weekend, him, make it, read up, recipes, shoes, wear it, win itNot to sound full of myself, but I’m pretty sure this is the be all, end all of popsicle roundups. There’s a little something for everyone: the foodies, the purists, the ones who prefer frozen yogurt, the ones who prefer a little alcohol, everyone. Tweny-five options to be exact. The post I did last summer on the cold guys was one of DC’s most viewed ever, so I thought you’d all be up for another round – was I right?

Posted In recipes, round upMy mom is forever making up (mostly delicious) recipes off the top of her head and never able to duplicate them. A kitchen recipe notebook would be perfect for her to keep track of her culinary masterpieces. The entire thing is well-designed, right down to the little pocket inside the back cover and linen cover.
