Searching for Shades

The summer after high school graduation I started wearing shades that were way too big for my face, and I’ve never looked back. I started with an oval pair that had tortoise shell frames (very Jackie O.), and made my way through until I landed on my favorite a few years ago. A pair of sunglasses that were black framed, almost square, and cost $5. They broke last December as I walked into an Office Depot to buy a cordless mouse for my aunt. Memories are funny, replacing sunglasses is not. Now that the temps are on the up and up – at least here – I need to find a new pair.

Summer Wedding Wardrobe

The wedding season is almost upon us, and I have three very different weddings to attend this summer. I already purchased this dress for the first in May, but still need to get my wardrobe up to speed for the others. Here’s just a little about the events and the sort of look I’m going to attempt for each one. Do you have a go-to outfit for nuptials?

The first a late morning event, followed by a low-key reception and after-party.
Dress: Mondrian Print Dress, Calypso St. Barth
Shoes: Bonneville Wedges, Anthropologie

The second in the evening, held at an upscale location full of pomp and circumstance.
Dress: Oversize Sequin Shift Dress, ASOS (check out the back!)
Shoes: Two-Tone Sequin Pump, BCBG/Max Azria

And the third, a ceremony that remains shrouded in mystery.
Dress: Camilla silk-crepe dress, Temperley London
Shoes: Marguertie, Nine West

Studs

As in the earrings, not the dudes.

Five years ago for Christmas my stepdad gave me a set of diamond studs set in white gold, and I think I can just about count the number of times I’ve taken them off on my fingers and toes. I have small ears and they’re the perfect size, nothing too flashy, and they go with absolutely everything. In other words, perfection.

I have plenty of longer earrings, but I’m realizing I’m not really a dangley earring kind of girl. I am however hoping to get a few more pairs of classic studs to mix things up at bit.

Sticks and Stones

Apparently all you have to do to make me want something is make it look like candy, especially when it comes to jewelry. These pieces from Portland-based Sticks and Stones are mesmerizing.{via Poppytalk}

Note to self: I really need a dual finger ring…

DIY Mania

One of my favorite parts of the design blogging community is the rampant creativity that gets shared. A lot of this shines through in do-it-yourself projects that people take the time to figure out, organize, and explain. And lately? Just wow. The past week alone has been a minefield of amazing ideas that I can’t wait to bring into my own home and wardrobe.
