My paternal grandfather was a gunner’s mate in the navy and carried the nickname Sailor with him for the rest of his life. He had an anchor tattooed on his forearm with carrying his ship’s name, and I’ll forever associate the emblem with him. I guess that’s why I’m so drawn to this hand-forged steel anchor necklace. I love the rough edges and that it will develop a slight patina over time, just like a rusty old sailor himself. {via Shiny Squirrel}
Leave it to Kate Spade to take a classic and reinvent it into another variation of the same. Take your pick of The Importace of Being Earnest, Great Expectations, and The Great Gatsby to clutch for a night on the town. But for now you can decorate your desktop with some sweet wallpaper.
The Hottest Tagline Ever award goes to Strumpet & Ink. Their knickers aren’t too shabby either. Definitely something to reserve for that special occasion.
These bandages from Cynthia Rowley remind me of that episode of the Cosby Show where Claire breaks her ankle right before she and Cliff are supposed to square off against one another in a Huxtable family fashion show. When the big night rolls around she puts a bedazzled paper lunch bag over her cast to jazz things up and, natch, wins. Long story short, heal in style.
One dollar from the sale of each tin will go to Design Ignites Change, an organization that engages high school and college students in design and architecture projects that address social issues in their own communities. {via Oh Joy!}
PS: Don’t forget to enter the Roll&TumblePress giveaway before Monday at 9am CST! (My answer: Joe McIntyre from New Kids on the Block. Man, I was in lurve with that boy.)
Let’s take a minute and talk about bangs. I love mine. They frame my face just so and make one of my better features, my eyes, pop more than usual. I also hate them. More specifically what they do to my forehead – I’m talking about the dreaded breakout.
After a few months of frustration I had a decision to make: either the bangs go or my routine changes. Like I said, I love my bangs. So last weekend I headed to the dreaded mall with a mission and left armed with Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel (no oil!) and their Acne Solutions foundation (also oil-free). And then just to make myself feel better (and not like a 14 year old girl) I popped over to Estee Lauder and picked up this Classic Red lipstick for fall.
After a few days of use I’m noticing a nice difference. Less oil. Better coverage. All I could have asked. Maybe I just should have listened to my stylist when he told me to buy this moisturizer two months ago… when I got bangs.
Lately I’ve been noticing a trend in the design of play spaces. Namely that not all of them are horrendously designed. Some even seem as though they might mesh with the design of your own home, instead of standing in the corner like a large plastic monolith.
First up, Brinca Dada’s Emerson House. The modern dollhouse has tons of features including mitered-glass corners, two fireplaces, sliding glass doors, solar panels, and recessed LED lights. It’s also constructed using only non-toxic and lead-free wood stains and paints. A lesson in design appreciation paired with environmental responsibility. Who couldn’t get behind that?
Next are Modern Playhouse’s Wedge House and Circle House. Designed by Gitane Royce and Nisreen Witt using no flimsy parts or garish colors. Just a sustainable playhouse made from locally-sourced and recycled materials and a blank palette for the imagination.
Lastly, this pop-up playhouse called My Space designed by Liya Mairson. Perfect for small spaces with little square footage or storage, this bad boy actually folds up flat.
PS: Also check out Dave Keune’s Nina’s House – crib, playpen, storage, drawers, and changing table. An all-in-one piece with a sleek white modern look.
Day in and day out my uniform er, outift stays fairly true to a designer’s stereotypical wardrobe. Dark wash skinny jeans. Some version of a black tee or horizontal nautical stripes. Cute flats or sandals. Some days I throw a long necklace and some nerd glasses into the mix. There’s not much to it, so I got to thinking. If I could add a few key pieces each season that would mix well with what I already own, what would those things be? Here’s what I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for this fall. The photo up top is my inspiration, if she wouldn’t wear I’m not either.
