Eyewear company Shwood has designed a pair utilizing oxidation, brass inlays are subjected to the chemical reaction in-house to create one-of-a-kind versions of their best selling frame – the Camby.
Aside from beauty, art is also in the eye of the beholder. Whether it’s a plastic bag caught floating in the breeze, shapes in the clouds… or the discarded blotting tissues of artist Del Kathryn Barton. Because that’s exactly what Tim Moore saw when working as Barton’s assistant, so much so that he turned 95 of them into a book – Tim Moore: Not My Blotting Tissues.
Couples who create together stay together, at least such is the case with Hal Grano and Jillian Kaufman and Utility Canvas. Founded in 1990, the designs and products are a combination of Jillian’s background in fashion and Hal’s appreciation for the canvas packs he used as a canoe guide. I’m drawn to all of their lines – to carry, to wear, and for the home.
Australian ceramic artist Sharon Muir creates stunning earthy yet graphic vessels. The stark blacks and whites she favors really standout against the terra cotta clay. Instant classics and/or heirlooms I’d bet.
Kinto has a fantastically put mission: Let your day be filled with what inspires you. Slow down, savor, and enrich your life with the things that just feel right in your hands. Their limited product line shows off a dedication to creativity and thoughtfulness that would be at home in any space.
So many of illustrators I’m drawn to are based out of England, and today Melissa Castrillon joins their ranks. Each of her works tells a story, communicating through color and shape just what Castrillon wants us to walk away with, aside from looking at another pretty picture. The Guerrero Wedge is an age old solution with a modern look. The sleek geometric shape and vibrant colors are just the solution I need for all of the wonky doors in my old home. Bonus: it’ll look just as good as a paperweight or objet on a shelf.
Make it work is Portland-based artist Justyn Hegreberg‘s mantra. In fact, his only self-imposed rule is to never throw away something once he’s begun working on it. And it seems to show through in his work in a lovely way because Hegreberg has a fast and loose style.
Little Korboose, the name a nod to modern architect Le Corbusier, is helmed by April Nemeth. The line draws on modern, minimalist design traditions, with a distinctively playful twist. My favorite pieces are dish towels, but be sure and check out the fun kid’s line as well.
Lee Griggs‘ XGen Portraits are pretty gnarly. The Madrid-based artist embellishes the same 3D scan of a man’s head with various shapes, textures, and colors to varying degrees. The results range from disco ball-like to completely grotesque.
