The Human Calendar is a great idea and whoever came up with it should be given a cookie and a gold star. People are set up in a grid to represent a typical calendar. Every day they all redirect their attention to the appropriate date/person. So cool.
Art museums are some of my favorite places in the world and I can appreciate the occasional gallery as well. One thing that has always irked me is the lack of interaction the viewer has with most art. I like to get up close and personal and see what it’s all about, which makes artist Hannes Broeker a man after my own heart. Broeker’s Drink Away the Art exhibition in Dresden, Germany invited viewers to grab a (provided) glass and literally drink away. What I love about this – besides the interaction – is how the viewers are actually helping to create the art as the levels of liquid recede and the frames change.
Today’s drink is Baptist Punch which is hilarious for two reasons.
1. Because of the region of the country I’m currently living in. 2. I haven’t had Everclear since college.
But besides that, Everclear’s nondetectable characteristics is one reason it’s called Baptist Punch. This way no one knows that you’ve been drinking. Awesome. And I love this photo – I want that punch bowl, or vase, or whatever it is!
Ingredients: – 1 part cranberry juice – 2 part orange juice – 1 part pineapple juice – Everclear (no exact measurements are given, just use at your discretion!)

Chip Kidd is one of my go-to inspirational gurus. Besides being hilarious and a phenomenal designer best known for book covers, he’s also an author himself. His first book, Cheese Monkeys, was awesome and there’s finally a release date for the follow-up The Learners: A Novel.
Trixie Delicious always has some great “vandalized vintage” pieces up for grabs on her Etsy shop and I’m really into the latest. I love the retro look and feel of these dishes with hand-painted text. Each piece is a one off which makes Trixie’s pieces that much more wonderful.
Update: Thanks to my fabulous/wonderful/amazing friend Kim the KOOK plate is all mine!
Now this, this would make an amazing gift. One Year of White Pages gives you twelve slim moleskin-like journals, one per month. Each journal has eighty pages and one hole punched out of the edge for each month to keep track. A steal at $35.
Swallows have to be my favorite avian friends because they’re just so aesthetically pleasing (or so says my inner Old Lady). The swallow mobile is a perfect example. Flensted Mobiles, of Denmark, create their mobiles so that the elements are in constant motion while the entire mobile maintains a harmonic balance. I dig it.
Nope, that’s not a tree from my yard, but it looks like everything in the tri-state area at the moment. You see, Oklahoma doesn’t get snow. We get ice. Since Saturday evening we’ve been in the midst of an ice storm and a third of the state is without power at the moment. We worked from home yesterday and today made it into the office late. Driving to work the roads were fine, but there were splintered trees everywhere you looked. Keep your fingers crossed for everyone who needs it!
I love these simple storybook tiles by artist Xenia Taler. They’re decorated by hand with glazes that have been made from scratch. The colors really stand out against the beige backgrounds. Each tile has a notch on the back for hanging, as well as a corked bottom for tabletop use.
