Reader Brian Curley sent me the link to his online portfolio and I was really taken with his entry into the AIGA Get Out the Vote competition. The clean, graphical elements really get the point across in a nice way. Check out Brian’s site for more work as well as the AIGA site for other entries into the competition! (Unfortunately, the call for entries was May 1, 2008, so you can’t enter any longer.)
I’m a cake kinda gal at heart and the description of this apple cake being not too sweet, moist and simple definitely caught my attention. Especially since I’m occasionally known to either A.) scrape icing off of my slice and B.) bake a cake and skip the icing altogether. Enjoy!
I haven’t gone on a picnic in years which is really sad. But I only like them when they’re well-planned and thought out and that takes, well, time. I’m thinking that these little DIY oilcloth placemats that hold both your silverware and napkin might give me the excuse I need to head out to the closest park and share some food with the ants! Check out the full tutorial to make a set of your own.
I’m really into retro-style kitchenwares lately, so this Cafe Style Coffee for One is right up my alley. The top half is a french press that is capable of brewing both coffee or tea one cup at a time. It’s available in ten different colors, but I’m really digging this aqua version.
I couldn’t leave you all wondering what to drink this evening as you celebrate Cinco de Mayo! Here are a few options to help you get in the spirit.
Red Headed Mexican Ingredients: – 1 1/4 oz Jose Cuervo Clasico – 4 oz Lemon lime soda (Sprite or 7up) – Splash of cranberry juice
Combine tequila and lemon-lime soda in a rocks glass with ice. Add splash of cranberry juice. Garnish with lemon or orange peel.
Cinco Herradura Cocktail Ingredients: – 1 1/2 oz Tequila Herradura silver – 2 oz pineapple juice – 2 oz cranberry juice – Splash of lemon-lime soda Garnish: fresh lime wedge, green, red and white sugar for rimming
Stir the tequila, fruit juices and soda together in a tall glass. Garnish with a fresh lime. Rim a third of a tumbler with lime and dip in green sugar. Rim the adjoining third of the glass with lime and dip in white sugar; rim the last third and drip in red sugar. Pour drink in rimmed glass and serve.
Honey Mango Margarita Ingredients – 1 1/2 oz reposado tequila – 1/2 oz Cointreau – 1 oz honey – 1/2 cup mango, sliced – 1 cup ice – juice of half lime – salt for rimming
Mix all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Strain into a margarita glass rimmed with salt (optional).
Oh, how I have dreamed of this day. Some bloggers measure in years, but we do it in posts. Who would have imagined little ol’ us hanging around for so long. Do people seriously read our blog? Do they actually pay attention to what I find interesting?? Post 1,000, as much as the two previously noted things surprise me there is something that is even better. And that’s the friendships I’ve formed because of and through Design Crush. These are the things that really make it all worthwhile.
I’m going to go ahead and apologize now for what is more than likely going to shape up to be a pretty hectic week. Work has been insanely busy (which is good – don’t get me wrong!) and making the hours of the day disappear faster than I’d like. Unfortunately, that doesn’t leave a lot of time for you, my dear Design Crushers. I promise to sneak in posts here and there when possible and to make it up to you as soon as things settle down a bit.
Happy Cinco de Mayo! Here in Oklahoma there’s a Tex-Mex restaurant around every other corner. Which is absolutely fine by me! One of my fallback favorites is fish tacos, which is actually more of a SoCal dish. I’ve never attempted to fry up my own, but these look delicious.
