Horse show ribbons have been popping up everywhere this fall and I’m completely smitten with the trend. I love this DIY project for prize ribbon place cards from Brittni of papernstitch over on 100 Layer Cake. Imagine all the possibilities – I’m thinking of a few myself.
– 8 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 stick), room temperature – ¼ cup dark brown sugar, packed – 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon – 1 ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg – ¼ tsp ground cloves – ⅛ teaspoon salt – half-gallon (64 ounces) all natural apple cider – cinnamon sticks (optional) – rum or apple brandy (optional)
Make spiced butter by combining butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt in a small bowl. Use a plastic spatula to transfer butter mixture to the middle of a 12″ x 12″ piece of plastic wrap. Fold plastic wrap over butter mixture and shape into a log, twisting ends to seal closed. Refrigerate until ready to use. Bring apple cider to a simmer over medium heat in a large pot, then turn heat to low. Remove spiced butter from plastic wrap and cut into 1-inch pieces. Add to hot cider and stir continuously until all butter is melted. Ladle buttered cider into mug, garnish with cinnamon stick and top with a shot of rum or apple brandy if desired. Serve hot. Serves 8.
Light, airy desserts like this Fluffy Apple Mousse are my favorite kind. They justify large quantities and aren’t too terribly filling! And I love the unexpectedness of the use of apples in a mousse.
I’ve been eating a lot of soup and sandwich lunches lately (RE: every day for the past two weeks!) and am thinking this cute soup and sandwich tray duo would come in big-time handy. Bonus: I love my dinnerware to be stark white. I need this.
See these beautiful, serene photographs by Corey Holms? They’re made out of food dye, vegetable oil and water. All things you can find in your kitchen. I’m tempted to try my hand at something similar, but have a feeling it would only end in tears and a rainbow colored kitchen floor. So for now I’ll content myself with the fact that a few of Corey’s are for sale here.
This photo reminds me of my hometown in Pennsylvania. Tons of trees and brick-lined roads made for the most beautiful falls I’ve ever seen. My homesickness really starts to rear its head during this time of year! {But I bought my plan ticket home for the holidays yesterday!)
When I first saw these ads and promotional pieces for the Sydney International Food Festival all I could do was shake my head up and down and smile. Because they’re just so flippin’ clever I didn’t know what else to do. And then I went and ate lunch. {via Wide Open Spaces}
and off we sped down the long and winding road not knowing what the future would hold
we found calm in each others smile wondering what we got ourselves into mile after mile
for the road was our escape not carrying where we arrived or if we were late
you are more than just a crush this journey was meant for the two of us
