Kevin Tong’s Tribute to Wes Anderson.

I think we can all agree that writer/director Wes Anderson is flipping amazing. Looks like artist Kevin Tong in on-board, too, with this stellar trifecta of prints. October 30th through November 27th the originals will be on exhibit in “Bad Dads: An Art Show Tribute to the Films of Wes Anderson” at the San Francisco’s LoPo Gallery (1141 Polk Street). The limited edition 18 x 24″ prints featuring The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, and Bottle Rocket will be on sale soon, so keep a watch on this spot if you’re interested.

Kiki & Polly.

A few weeks ago Joanna notified me that I’d won the Kiki & Polly giveaway on her blog. Not only did it make my day, but intensified the crush I’ve had on portrait artist Lisa Golightly tenfold. Lisa is super talented and speedy (it didn’t even take her two weeks once I emailed my photo), she’s also sweet as can be. I can easily think of ten events Lisa’s work would be perfect for in life. My portrait showed up in the mail yesterday, along with a few little sample pieces, and I immediately ran out after work to buy a frame. I stupidly forgot to photograph it in its environment, but couldn’t wait to share my winnings with you.

Brawlers.

I’ve been spotting a ton of great masculine pieces lately, and so far the Brawler series by illustrator Fredrik Tjernstrom has been my favorite. Can’t you just picture them adorning the walls of a billiard room or library, the air heavy with cigar smoke and rolled up shirt sleeves everywhere?

Dave Eggers.

Dave Eggers is a modern day Renaissance man. Writer and publisher? Check and check. Lyricist? Check. Artist? Check. I’ve seen some of his graphics work before, but these illustrations are something else entirely. {via Teen Angster}

“This past year I went back to drawing animals. The process for these pictures is pretty simple: I find an old photo of an animal that somehow has some intrigue, and I use a China marker to freehand a version of that animal onto very smooth paper. Then I think of what that animal might be thinking — if that animal had an antagonistic relationship with humans and was vying with those humans for the favor of a Catholic God.”

Pepa Prieto.

Spanish artist Pepa Prieto creates these intricately woven mixed media pieces that bring nothing but a smile to my face. Lots of her art has underlying tones of violence and anger, but she channels both beautifully.

Lotta Nieminen.

It would be fair to say the second I saw Lotta Nieminen’s illustrations I became instantly obsessed with her flat style. It lacks any dimension, yet is chalk full of details and fantastic color combinations. She has a lovely eye for design. {via Kitsune Noir}
