Oh Matthew, how I love thee. Mr. Mead always brings a fresh perspective and great ideas to the scene, so I was pumped when I had an email in my inbox this morning announcing the launch of Matthew Mead Style’s Spring site. Stop by and drool!
Ever since Ez at Creature Comforts posted about the You Are Beautiful site last week I haven’t been able to get it out of my head! By using installations, stickers, collaborations and exhibitions You Are Beautiful manages to make a small difference in peoples’ every day lives by creating moments of positive self-realization.
“We’re just attempting to make the world a little better. Advertising elicits a response to buy, where this project elicits a response to do something. The attempt with You Are Beautiful is to create activism instead of consumerism. You Are Beautiful uses the medium of advertising and commercialization to spread a positive message. Projects like these make a difference in the world by catching us in the midst of daily life and creating moments of positive self realization.”
Who wouldn’t love to come across an image like the one above on your way to or from work? It would at least make the day a little more memorable. You can even upload your own images displaying the phrase or one of their stickers to be posted. Download a PDF to print your own stickers here.
Between now and November 4th (Happy Birthday to me and the election!) you’ll see posts about politics occasionally. Like this site – Barack Obama is Your New Bicycle. Keep clicking away on the screen for different ways Obama is out to help.
I’ll stand up and say loud and proud that I happen to be an Obama supporter, but I honestly don’t care what side you’re voting. If a post sways your opinion in the end, or helps you choose a candidate that’s fantastic, but I’m posting them for the sheer creative force displayed.
LOVE in Times Square is a striking public art project featuring fifteen banner designs by twelve top graphic designers and illustrators. Each banner utilizes the word “LOVE” in a different typographic treatment as each artist brings their personal interpretation to the word. You can even spread the love by sending an e-card emblazoned with one of the banners to someone special.
I tend to be fascinated with all things voyeuristic, so when I saw this homage to Pre-Owned Bookmarks over on swissmiss my heart essentially skipped a beat. Turns out it’s a collection of “bookmarks” collected over the years from books purchased at flea markets, garage sales, used bookstores, etc.
I almost never use an actual bookmark in books I’m reading (which usually happens to be more than one at a time). My favorite page markers are those annoying subscription cards that fall out of magazines when you’re trying to read them, so I was drawn to the one above. Who knows, maybe it’s even mine. Creepy.
Animal rescue is a cause near and dear to my heart. My cat, Peanut, was rescued before I got him and he makes my every day ten times better.
The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated daily to abused and neglected animals. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on the purple box – fund food for animals – for free. This doesn’t cost you a thing and is entirely FREE. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.
I hit up the site every morning before I even check my email. Please pass this on or post this on your blog to help. A sincere thank you in advance.
The Bad Gift Emporium is genius for this time of year when Christmas sweaters and porcelain figurines seem to run rampant. The Emporium thrives on the thought that one man’s bad gift is another’s treasure. So add your own horrendous acquisitions and peruse the others – some of which could be yours if they’re available and you strike a sweet deal with the current owner.
The Human Calendar is a great idea and whoever came up with it should be given a cookie and a gold star. People are set up in a grid to represent a typical calendar. Every day they all redirect their attention to the appropriate date/person. So cool.
Today is one of those days – well, actually it’s one of those weeks – that sorta sucks pretty bad. Anything that pops up on my Humor Radar turns into one of the high points of my day. Rock Blandksy’s Bad Ideas are just what I needed this afternoon and didn’t even know it. I love his I-Know-I’m-Not-Very-Funny-But-You-Think-I’m-Hilarious humor. The little blurbs that accompany each Bad Idea are great. Not to mention that the guy behind it all manages to create some pretty kickass illustrations and packaging in his spare time.
