Yvonne Ellen

Yvonne Ellen-1-Design Crush

Yvonne Ellen‘s upcycled homeware collection is lovely, especially the masterpieces that travel across more than one vessel like the whale above. Each piece is scavenged from estate sales and the like, then quirkily illustrated in London so that no two are alike. Such a beautiful display of vintage meets contemporary! (via The City Sage)

Astier de Villatte + Patch NYC

Astier de Villatte:Patch-Design CrushPatch

What happens when two shops – one in France, the other in Boston – both with cult followings team up for a collaboration? No, the universe does not implode but I get very excited. Astier de Villatte (known for homespun plates and candles) and PATCH NYC (specializing in home decor and accessories) have partnered for a series of plates and notebooks featuring whimsical drawings. Such a natural project for these two, you can check out the entire collection right here.

The Genet Scarf

ONE Campaign + FasionABLE-1-Design Crush

See that beautiful, graphic scarf up there? It was woven by a former sex worker named Genet. She lives in Ethiopia and has been counseled, trained and employed by FashionABLE, an incredible for-benefit company based out of Nashville. The Genet scarf was designed by my friend, Janette (different spelling, same name!), who won the vote of 600 Alt Summit attendees in January to have her design produced in a limited-edition for delivery by Mother’s Day. Today and tomorrow the scarf is available for pre-order through the ONE Campaign and FashionABLE. The more scarves sold, the more lives we can change!

Strike

Strike-1-Design Crush

When a redesign of an everyday object is not only brilliant but attractive I can’t help but do a little dance inside! HAY gives me just that feeling with Strike, an updated version of the matchbox. Now the striker isn’t just a functional zone on the side of the box, it’s a graphic piece of the design as well. (via Design Milk)

AirCraft

AirCraft-1-Design Crush

Artistic triple-threat (photographer, architect, and graphic designer) Jeffrey Milstein has created an on-going photography series entitled AirCraft. Milstein captures each air born metallic wonder when it is perfectly overhead and about to land, he then later removes the background to create a purer experience. (via designboom)

Word Range

Word Range-1-Design Crush

I’m loving the simplicity of Keith Brymer Jones’ Word Range series of contemporary tableware. Modern, clean designs with a typewriter-style stamped word. It’s safe to say that this collection lives happily at the conjunction of form and function.

CeramicaBotanica

Ceramica Botanica-1-Design Crush

Susan Rodriguez’s CeramicaBotanica collection is everything you could want from someone with 20 years experience working with clay. Each piece is handmade by Susan in her San Antonio backyard studio using earthenware clay and colorful slips. Most are one of a kind, food safe, and made to be used in your kitchen on a daily basis. I love the bold patterns and use of color!
