I’ve seen Tauba Auerbach’s RGB Colorspace Atlas plastered across the design web and couldn’t resist sharing it for myself. Auerbach created an 8x8x8″ book depicting every color of the web airbrushed across its cover and pages. It’s the Photoshop color picker come to life!

So now you know that I’m on this year’s Electrolux Design Lab jury. A total honor for me. And you’re about to know what the ten finalist designs are. An even bigger honor for them. The competition was mighty steep (1,200 entries!), and I’d be lying if I didn’t already have a few favorites. You can read more about the finalists right here after viewing the concepts below. Bonus? Click on each image to check out a video of each product in action!
Which is your favorite? Vote for the People’s Choice!

A poster that actually tells time. Another that illuminates like a lamp. And a third that delivers sound. It’s safe to say that artist Finn Magee knows how to think outside the box and execute. The Flat Time and Flat Light posters function with the use of LED lights, while Flat Sound employs the thinnest speaker commercially available.

What’s better than a cleanly designed vase? Several cleanly designed vases nestled one inside the other, where each outer vase has to be broken in order to reach the next. What shape will the next one be? Is it worth it? Curious Vase is definitely aptly named. (via Design Mom)

If you were born any time before 1985, chances are you have memories of having your photo snapped by a Polaroid camera. And then the even more exciting event of watching it slowly develop from the murky depths. I can personally state that 95% of the pictures taken of me before the age of 7 are Polaroids. It was such a huge part of our culture. The original instant-view photos, long before digital photography and Instagram.
Instant: The Story of Polaroid by Christopher Bonanos takes us back through the company’s creation and rapid rise to fame, from the small beginnings of Edwin Land’s garage startup to a multi-billion dollar company. I loved reading about artists falling in love with Polaroid, and my heart broke a little taking in the bankruptcy all over again. If you have the love for Polaroid that I do, or know someone else who might, this is a bookshelf necessity.
