Think Different

I’d be remiss not to pay homage to the loss of such a visionary. Steve Jobs was sick, that we all knew. I think what we didn’t know was how much he impacted our lives. He made my career as a graphic designer possible, and my role as a blogger easier. His inventions allow me to communicate more readily with my friends and family, and share photos and work instantly without a second thought. Without Steve Jobs my love of music might not be as big a part of my life as it is, because it’s so readily available. Without his innovative, forward-thinking ingenuity my life as I know it would cease to exist. And to think, he was really only getting started.

Fosterhood

 

As much as I’ve grown and changed in 31 years, one thing has remained a constant. My love of animals. Several of my friends foster dogs and cats and, well, it seemed like only a matter of time before I fell into the system as well.

Last Monday I received my first two charges: Sophie and Petunia. One miniature pinscher and one Italian greyhound(?). Both 6-months(ish) old, both with massive ears. Sophie is more timid, but plays a mean rope. Petunia is a hardcore play-all-the-timer, but gives good snuggles too. Both are lovers and being potty trained (a first for me!). This fostering thing is no joke, it is definitely work. I take them outside at least once an hour, break up dog fights, and listen to whines when it’s time for bed and they have to be crated. I don’t think I’d be able to do it if I weren’t working from home right now, that’s for sure. But I know when they go up for adoption in less than two weeks I’m going to feel the biggest sense of accomplishment (and a little sadness) as I send them off to their new homes.

For those of you in Oklahoma City, both Sophie and Petunia (along with 598 other animals) will be up for adoption at Midnight Woofness October 15-16!

FEED Bag

They were selling these trick or treating bags during NYFW and I thought they were fantastic both in the looks and cause department. Constructed from FEED’s signature burlap, each bag generates funding to help UNICEF provide nutritious meals to children in developing countries so they can lead happy, healthy lives.

Warby Parker

I’ve been meaning to order a pair of Warby Parker glasses since they came out. Then since they opened a showroom at Shop Good. Then when they debuted their line of sunglasses. You get the picture. So when my two year eye appointment rolled around this month I knew it was really time. Lucky for me, Oklahoma City is one of four locations in the U.S. that have physical showrooms – it’s located inside Shop Good. I swear I’d been in there trying on frames no fewer than three times over the past year. The owners, Justin and Audrey, are sweethearts who I’ve been lucky enough to know for about a year and a half. After about thirty minutes I settled on the Beckett frames and my order was complete in less than five minutes. Monday I got the email saying my glasses had shipped, and yesterday they were waiting on my doorstep when I got home from work. They showed up in the best box with a case lined in electric blue.  Oh! And a pair of their glasses went to someone in need when I purchased mine, all for a very affordable $95 total.

 

Then I immediately took my contacts out and tried them on. After ten hours at the office. Just for you.

MYdrap

 

I reuse, I recycle, I want to take on composting. And I use way to many paper towels. I’ve tried to cut back, but there’s something to be said for the convenience and satisfaction of tearing one off the roll. MYdrap basically takes all of those things into consideration and sends them off in a greener direction. Tear one of the 100% biodegradable cotton napkins (or placemats) off their roll, then wash it up to six times before composting or recycling it.
