Summer Sangrias

I don’t really think think any cocktail says summer quite like sangria. Sure, margaritas are a close second but not quite the same. You need fresh fruit for sangria, and probably a deck or porch of some sort. At the least a picnic blanket (it’s a requirement, I looked it up). Whoever decided the addition of fruit could make wine even better is a genius. [Click on the photos to be taken to the recipe.]

An Illustrated Guide to Cocktails

If my weaknesses for cocktails, illustrations, and cookbooks all got together and had a baby (don’t think about it too hard) it would come out as this book.

An Illustrated Guide to Cocktails, by Orr Shtuhl and Elizabeth Graeber, tells the tales of the heyday of cocktails, from the origin of the margarita to the grandeur of the first celebrity bartender with some modern twists. Along the way, this fun, handheld guide is dabbled with beautiful illustrations and, of course, recipes.

Monday is Memorial Day in the States, so I’ll be taking the day off to do patriotic things like (unintentionally) fry myself to a crisp and (unintentionally) burn some hamburgers on the grill. See you Tuesday, lovahs.

Tequila is one of my favorite libations, so it figures that margaritas are high on my list as well. Preferably not too sweet, on the rocks, no salt. And not that you need a good reason to mix (or shake) up a good one, but it is Cinco de Mayo… so you’re sort of obligated. (As always, click on the image to be taken to the recipe.)

St. Patrick’s Day is one of those go big or go home holidays. Either you love it and celebrate brashly, or it’s basically just another day. With green eyes, a name like Kelly, and a wee bit of Irish heritage I’m in the former camp.
