Get Baked at Home.

Oooh yay! Baked has just released a cookbook chalk full of their best-sellers and favorites like The Sweet and Salty Cake, the Peanut Butter Crispy Bar, the Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Loaf, and Cheddar Chipotle Biscuits. Yeah, I probably, definitely need this.

First Blush.

Think of First Blush juices as a sort of wine of the grape juice world – including Merlot, Cabernet and Chardonnay varieties. Each varietal grape juice has a unique and dynamic concentration of flavors. All juices are 100% natural with no added sugar and no preservatives. Might be a nice option for a dinner party for those who prefer something a little less, ahem, alcoholic.

OKC Dinner and/or Book Club.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about how I want to meet more people and become involved in a few more activities. But I want it to be low-key things, and definitely things that I’m actually interested in.

And that’s where the idea of a Dinner and/or Book Club came from. I honestly don’t know how many Design Crush readers are from the OKC area, but of those of you who are is anyone interested in joining a small group that meets once a month to make an awesome meal or discuss a certain book? It could easily be two separate groups or maybe both combined into one evening. Drop me an email at designcrushing@gmail.com if you’re interested!

Seasoned Skewers.

In the summer I love to break out the grill. But the barby is one of those areas that I don’t exactly, well, excel. I inevitably forget to marinate the meat ahead of time and wind up with a flavorless dinner. That’s where Seasoned Skewers come in the picture. Since the actual skewers hold the flavor, all you have to do is pop some cubed meat and veggies on or even stick a few through a larger piece of meat. Voila, a yummy meal. Seasoned Skewers seem like an all around great product right down to their packaging and web site. Check it out for recipe ideas.

DRY Soda Co.

Seattle-based DRY Soda Co. is anything but. Offering a line of all-natural, lightly sweetened sodas flavored with fruit or herb extracts and pure cane sugar, DRY is a modern alternative to mainstream sugar- or saccharine-laden drinks. Try kumquat, lavender, lemongrass or rhubarb for a kick in the taste buds. Or get really crazy and use the fizzy beverage as a mixer. Check out the DRY site for more ideas and insights into DRY Living.

And that bottle design? Swoon.

Ethnic Kettle Chips.

Kettle Chips are definitely some of the yummiest potatoes I’ve ever tasted. They’re super crunchy and you really have to take your time chewing, lest you impale the roof of your mouth with a jagged edge. Yeah, that kind of crunchy. You know what I’m talking about.

Recently Kettle Brand released their Ethnic Chips which boast some really beautiful packaging. A simple white bag with a belly band constructed out of kraft paper and printed with colorful, eye-popping inks. Really, really lovely design.

Askinosie Chocolate.

What happens when a criminal defense lawyer is a chocoholic baker on the side? Askinosie Chocolate of course. In May 2005, Shawn Askinosie quit his day job and pursued chocolate making. (His story is a lot more interesting that that, but you’ll have to check it out for yourself!)

I love chocolate. But if it’s possible, I may love good packaging more. And this here is some very good packaging design. The earthy palette and materials feel very true to what Askinosie was originally out to accomplish – honest to goodness chocolate. Not something that been processed to there and back. Everything feels just rustic enough – like it came to you directly from the source.

Oh, and I bet the chocolate is pretty yummy!

Essential 1800.

1800 Tequila is currently featuring artwork by those they deem “essential artists.” Those creating the world’s most vital work at this very moment. The featured works are as diverse as the artists themselves, hailing from the world over and creating work which reflects not only their personalities, but their backgrounds as well. The art hasn’t been restricted to canvases either. Try pixels and street corners as well. On that same note, the artists’ creations will not only be shown in outdoor exhibitions, but also on limited edition 1800 bottles and custom-designed shoes. How’s that for thinking outside the box?
