Flat-packed models have been gaining in popularity, and this trio of beetles from Assembli is exceptional! Choose from the Stag, Hercules, and Atlas species before selecting from a number of color options, then get to work putting together the cut paper and cardboard skeleton and wings.
Tsumiki Stacking Blocks are essentially Japan’s super sleek answer to Legos. Structurally a triangle is the strongest geometric shape, and architect Kengo Kuma has turned it into a playful and interactive building set. Each piece is crafted with Japanese cedar with notches cut into the tip of each block that allow them to be stacked. These blocks may be made for kids, but I’d happily use them too!

Occasionally a toy is as much fun for an adult as it is a child – check out KUUM. It’s a collection of 202 building blocks crafted from beech wood that come in beautifully arranged units of 12 pieces. Each unit represents 12 elements (soil, fire, flower, tree, mountain, sea, ice, stone, earth, moon, sun, and sand) and each unique piece represents a small fragment of nature. Halloween was always played up as the best holiday at my house as a kid, which is probably why it remains my favorite to this day.
