You Should Totally: Washi Tape Your Door Edges

Washi-Tape-Door-Edge-Design-Crush

There are a few things in this world to which I have a difficult time committing. Paint is one of them. I’ve seen images of brightly painted door edges floating around for months now, and I love the look but couldn’t… you know. Then the other day it hit me, why not washi tape my office door’s edge instead?! This project is perfectly impermanent and takes approximately two minutes to execute, how’s that for instant gratification? All you need is your favorite roll of washi tape and an X-acto knife to trim around the hardware. I was happy with one strip right down the middle of the edge, but you could definitely cover the entire width with a few extra minutes and a little more tape. Now my door makes me smile every time I walk into my office space!

The second I saw The Mod Collective‘s porcelain collection I knew that if forced to choose one line for my entire kitchen this would be the one. Each piece is created by a combination of design software and 3D printers, then hand finished and glazed on the inside to make it food safe while the exterior is left raw. My favorite feature is that raw pigment is added to the porcelain slip, which means that if a piece were to chip you wouldn’t see white on the interior like most pieces.

Kiva Platters

Kiva Platters-Design Crush

I have a thing for beautiful raw materials, and these Kiva Platters are definitely one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. Each one is hand-polished by master craftsmen in Brazil, and then contoured with precious metals. The natural stone combined with sterling silver and 24K gold are are scratch resistant for use in the kitchen and have rubber feet on their bottoms to protect surfaces. but I’d just as soon hang them on my wall as art.

How do you stay on top of the things going on outside of your bubble? My world revolves around the web so it’s my obvious go-to for news, events, everything really. I’m especially loving the new MSN site which is really well-designed. The overall site is uber minimal – which you know I love – and it’s perfect for the the touchscreen. As an online publisher one of my favorite features is its ability to share real-time trends, I need to stay on top of so much all of the time that I’ll take all the help I can get. MSN is the best way to stay in the know and the new site design is only the latest reminder. Check out all of its features for yourself right here.

West African Peanut Soup

West-African-Peanut-Soup-Cookie+Kate-Design-Crush

Hi. My name is Kelly and I’m addicted to West African Peanut Soup. I’ve made it twice in a week’s time. It’s super easy to put together (most ingredients are pantry staples) and even easier to eat. Spicy, healthy, and did I mention vegan? This soup is all those things and more. Credit goes to Cookie + Kate, with my only changes being the addition of 3 tablespoons chopped cilantro and a tablespoon of fresh lime juice. Why are you still reading this, go make some NOW! I’ll be over in five.
