5 Favorite Food Blogs of the Moment

Since being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year (whomp whomp), food porn has become even more prevalent in my carb-counting lifestyle. Thankfully there are not only plenty of ways to adapt recipes (zucchini noodles and mashed cauliflower have become my favorites), there are also plenty of sites that create beautifully developed recipes that are photographed so well I can almost taste them through the screen of my laptop. Here are five that make my tastebuds daydream.

Hipsterfood-Design-Crush

Hipsterfood is a vegan site run by couple Cara and Bob. Their ironically named site is full of sometimes healthy, sometimes decadent recipes that are made from “95% cheap, easy-to-find food, and 5% sort-of-pricey, specialty food.” I love how realistic and unpretentious these two are and look forward to the day when they write a cookbook.

Recent Favorites: Four Dollar Pho, Lemon-Blueberry Pudding Cake, Comforting Spiced White Bean Orichiette Stew

Butterlust-Design-Crush

Butterlust is the work of the witty and intelligent Katie, who runs her site kind of like a test kitchen. If something goes wrong you’ll know it because she’ll tell you, just like how she sometimes uses cake mix and is super messy in the kitchen. Honesty is always refreshing.

Recent Favorites: Coconut Gingeroons with White Chocolate Drizzle, Strawberry + Marzipan Hand Pies, Cranberry, Dark Chocolate & Pistachio Cinnamon Rolls

Lady-and-Pups-Design-Crush

Lady and Pups is a self-proclaimed “angry food blog” of one woman and her move to Beijing three years ago. You see, she kind of hates it so she’s turning all of that frustration and angst into lovely meals. I’m totally down with that – some of the best creativity is born from situations we can’t control.

Recent Favorites: Bacon Cracklin’ Pancake with Salted Honey, Cold and Warm Salmon Scrambled Eggs Rolls, Carrot Gingerbread Cake with Cardamom Frosting + Ginger Fries

Seasons&Suppers-Design-Crush

Seasons & Suppers is Jennifer’s cooking diary as she makes her way through the seasons Ontario, Canada. Seasonal and healthy, hearty and comforting, occasionally decadent recipes fill each post with a focus on taking advantage of what’s fresh and at its best.

Recent Favorites: Meyer Lemon Risotto with Arugula and Shiitakes, 15 Minute Spicy Udon and Vegetable Stir Fry, Baby Blueberry Beignets

my-name-is-yeh-Design-Crush

My Name is Yeh follows the hilarious Molly through her adventurous in food and life. Most recipes are inspired by her Jewish and Asian roots, and now that she’s moved from Brooklyn to a farm in North Dakota there’s a bit of that as well. It seems she’s always on a adventure.

Recent Favorites: Shakshuka Pizza, Breakfast Hasselback Sweet Potatoes, Rich Little Brownies with Matcha Glaze

Casper

Casper-1-Design Crush

Last week a beautiful thing showed up on my doorstep in a large cardboard box. A MATTRESS.

Casper-2-Design Crush

Casper-3-Design Crush

It’s pure magic that something as large as a queen size mattress can be folded over upon itself and delivered on a doorstep. My 8-year-old spring mattress had seen better days and my lower back was letting me know about it. Because mail delivery mattresses are a popular thing lately I looked into a few different options, but one came out on top – Casper.

Casper-4-Design Crush

After I hauled the burrito-like bedroll out of the box (and took a breather, because let’s be honest), I hauled it onto my box spring and cut along the spot they indicated. And then I stood back and watched as it grew, and grew, AND GREW. It was like an air mattress inflating without the air!

Then voila – I had a new mattress.

I laid down on the thing immediately and basked in the glory of my brilliance and handiwork. When I was finished I noticed that the Casper mattress was supporting my body in all the right places. There was no pressure on my hips or shoulders, my lower back wasn’t arched in space, and I wasn’t sinking.

Casper-5-Design Crush

Each Casper is made from support foam topped with memory foam topped with an inch and a half of high-performace latex that helps keep the bed cool as you sleep. (I can hardly wait to test this out come summer.) Going a step further in sourcing, the knit fabrics come from South Carolina, the wovens from Belgium, and they’re all sewn together in Illinois and South Carolina before being distributed out of New York. And it doesn’t hurt that both Casper‘s site and social media presence have a great sense of humor about them, an all around great brand that I’m happy to support.

Casper-6-Design Crush

Each mattress is backed by a 100-night, no-hassle return policy, and 10-year full warranty. Oh, and free shipping both ways even if you decide to return it. So if you think a Casper mattress might be for you and want to give it a go, email me at designcrushing@gmail.com and I’ll help you out with a code for $50 off!

I received product in exchange for this post. All words and opinions are my own, as always. Thank you for supporting the brands that help keep Design Crush going!

Big + Bold Statement Art

Big + Bold Statement Art-Brittany Ambridge-Design Crush

Brittany Ambridge

It’s a trend that’s been slowly building momentum over the past year – big + bold statement art. While the gallery wall doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, it’s being given a run for its money by the impactful look of one large piece. So clean and simple, such a focal point. All of these things resonate with my heart and the clean aesthetic I gravitate towards. Feel free to go as big or as bold as you dare, an wall-sized mural is as much fair game as a massive canvas. The beauty of it all is that this treatment works in nearly every room, from dining room to bedroom and everywhere in between.

Much Love To You Printable

Much-Love-to-You-Colore-Grace-1-Design-Crush

I’ve spent the last year watching my friend Colore’s calligraphy talent go from beginner to her own beautiful style. While she’s usually busy creating over on her site – Colore’ Grace – today she’s sharing a Valentine’s Day card printable with us. The sentiment of ‘much love to you’ is just about the perfect thought for everyone on February 14th. It’s not terribly sentimental or cliche so print them out for your friends, your family – anyone who has a special place in your heart that you wish to know you’re thinking of them come Valentine’s Day.

The Tipsy Writer

Tipsy Writer-1-Design Crush

The Tipsy Writer is basically a Weeble for the adult set… you remember what a Weeble is, yes?. The penholder’s spherical weight is made up of a half brass, half wooden ball and the entire set up is half sculpture, half plaything. What a great addition to any desk!
