You might remember back about a year ago when Design Crush tapped Sarah Fox of Cursive Design to team up with for the HP Designer Matchup Challenge. Sarah created an incredible reversible collar necklace for the New York Fashion Week event, then ran with one of the vintage cast pieces to create part of her FW2013 collection! I asked her to share a little about the evolution of what she refers to as the “apex” shape.
Last year when Kelly approached me about collaborating on a piece for the HP Designer Matchup Challenge I knew instantly I wanted to get a mold made of some vintage glass I had and to get it cast in bronze. It’s something I’d been thinking about for quite awhile but had never ventured into yet. I really wanted to step way outside my comfort zone on that challenge (and I did!). I fell in love with this little piece of glass I picked up on a buying trip some months ahead of Kelly’s invitation. I knew it was special instantly but had no idea where it would come into play. Material collecting is often all about gut impulses and I really love that part of the business. For this new collection that little piece (which I named the Apex) is incorporated into almost every piece and it feels really special that it started in this totally unexpected way.
Erin Considine consistently creates out of the box, well-designed jewelry. She mixes materials like no one else and has a knack for choosing great colors time and time again. I’d love to mix her AW2013 collection with chunky sweaters and cocktail dresses!
These ABC Pendants are a definite departure from your run-of-the-mill initial necklace, and I’m all for it! Turina Jewellery teamed up with graphic designer Lena Steinborn to create an entire alphabet’s worth of individually designed letters for you to choose from. Color is one of the biggest elements of my style, of most peoples’ really. You can choose to be moody one day while cloaking yourself in black, or fun and playful the next while mixing bright hues. Innocent and ethereal in white, or downplayed in shades of brown. The point is that color infiltrates our lives in every way and definitely effects our mood. It’s reflected in my home, my closet, and now technology as well!
Motorola’s Moto X has been blowing up all over the place, and with over 2,000 color combinations it’s easy to see why. I’m glued to my phone and I’m sure you probably are too, so it’s especially it’s nice that Motorola has realized what a huge chunk of the market thinks of their phone not only as a lifeline but also as an accessory! After really examining my aesthetic and style preferences I decided on a blush Moto X with lemon lime accents. It perfectly mimics my taste, Plain with a Punch! Neutral tones, casual style, with an unexpected touch to make it really special.
Fall is my all-time favorite season to dress for. I love layering and being able to pull from my summer and winter staples to build out an outfit depending on the temperature. (Which is totally necessary, it can be in the 70s well into December here in Oklahoma.) I love being able to wear boots again, and that it’s perfectly acceptable to wear a sleeveless dress with a light jacket and tights. Seventeen days of summer left, not that I’m counting…
