I accidentally came across this Paraphernalia name necklace via Poppytalk this afternoon and cannot stop thinking about how badly I need to own it. Of course I’d probably end up putting something snarky on it – like Devilish – instead of my real name. What can I say – I love words. Paraphernalia also has other equally interesting necklaces: care for a heart, brain or molar?
Artists, illustrators and designers amaze me in different ways every single day. I always have a different reaction or feeling with each one, but never have I been left staring, mouth agape in utter wonder as I was when I first set eyes on the work of Robert Ryan. The craft of paper-cutting which he has adopted as his art is intricate and beautiful enough, but what is really striking to me is the subject matter he chooses: emotional, life-altering moments that leave me speechless. I don’t generally post so many pieces of any single artist’s work, but when you fall in love with every single thing it’s difficult to make a decision. Enjoy and definitely check out the rest of Mr. Ryan’s site to see all of his talent.
That’s right, a dress cut from paper in the pages of Vogue by none other than Robert Ryan himself.
I adore Matthew Mead’s advice and ideas, only it makes me sad that he updates just once a season. I want more. The Fall version was released recently with some tasty looking recipes for chifon pies, as well as autumn style tips and decorating ideas for Halloween and Thanksgiving. Definitely make sure and check out the Downloads section for some fun ideas.
Everyone needs Happy Pills at some point and what makes you happier than candy? (Very little if you’re me.) studio m is the brains and beauty behind a tiny blink-and-you-miss-it candy store in Barcelona called Happy Pills. The design is spot on and I love, love, love that it’s targeting adults. Perhaps a little risque with the red cross mark with all the lawsuits surrounding it these days, but brilliant nonetheless. This is a franchise opp just waiting to happen.
Desktop calendars are a rather new obsession for me. I think there’s just something wonderful about the miniaturized months as opposed to traditional-sized wall calendars that most of us are used to. This is the time of year when I start looking around for next year’s date keepers and a desktop calendar is on my list of Must Haves. It’s not that iCal, my cell, etc aren’t handy it’s just that, well, these are so much prettier. Here are the contenders so far.
It’s under 70ยบ here today for the first time in about seven months. Surely that means winter is coming, no? The Peak Sled from Design Within Reach will have to entertain me visually until the snow falls. You know, one of about ten times a year that happens here in Oklahoma. I do love the basket weave seat design and ash wood design – a great simplistic Shaker look.
Last weekend at The Girlie Show one of my purchases was this Simple Halo necklace from Freshie & Zero. Their hammered jewelry is incredible and I had a tough time choosing between a few of the different pieces. It strikes me as really ironic that something as forceful as hammering can have an end result so delicate. I also had a chance to meet and chat with “Freshie” who’s a real doll. I’ve mentioned before how I wear about five necklaces on a regular basis and I knew the moment I picked this one up that it was going to be part of the rotation.
Today is one of those days – well, actually it’s one of those weeks – that sorta sucks pretty bad. Anything that pops up on my Humor Radar turns into one of the high points of my day. Rock Blandksy’s Bad Ideas are just what I needed this afternoon and didn’t even know it. I love his I-Know-I’m-Not-Very-Funny-But-You-Think-I’m-Hilarious humor. The little blurbs that accompany each Bad Idea are great. Not to mention that the guy behind it all manages to create some pretty kickass illustrations and packaging in his spare time.

The Birds and Stripes boxed set of notecards from orange beautiful’s Etsy shop is perfect for fall. Everything about the notes reminds me of the season. Really lovely.
