Woven Pear

Woven Pear-1-Design Crush

One of the best parts about being in a circle of creative people is that they never. stop. creating. When they hit the pillow at night their minds are still going, thinking about the next thing they just have to make. Designers Melanie Burk and Alma Loveland are the friends and minds behind Woven Pear, a shop that designs socks for women literally down to the soles (check out the cute sayings on each pair). I have the Foxy Lady pair above and they’ve made many dreary winter days brighter.

I’ve been keeping my mouth shut and waiting for months as my good friend, Jaime Derringer of Design Milk, pulled together what was sure to instantly become my go-to jewelry shop. And at long last Adorn Milk is here!

If modern art and design for your body is your thing, you’ll love Jaime’s handpicked selection of independent and emerging jewelry designers. Each one is focused on architectural, high-quality exclusive and custom pieces by independent artists and designers from around the world. And yeah, I basically want it all.

Maker & Mineral

Maker & Mineral-1-Design Crush

Samantha Ives’ Maker + Mineral shop shows off her love of textiles and amazing pattern choices. Each item is screen-printed and sewn by hand in San Francisco for one-of-a-kind pieces. (That hand print is calling to me to buy it in a big way!)

St. Eloy

St.-Eloy-1-Design-Crush

Emily Counts’ Portland-based St. Eloy jewelry line is inspired by geological formations, medieval craftsmanship, and mid-century modernism. Cast bronze, silver, and porcelain pieces are at once sculptural, geometric, organic in form, while Emily’s more playful painted beads focus on line, contrast, and color. But that’s not the end of her talent, check out more of Emily Counts’ artistic skills at emilycounts.com.

Epoché

Epoché-1-Design Crush

I’m forever on the lookout for a great leather bag, and when it happens to be paired with some great art all the better. Epoché manages it all by pulling inspiration from painting, printmaking, and pattern design to merge art and fashion. The bags are also very high quality and on sale right now to make room for a new collection! No time like the present to add a piece that’s sure to be a favorite for years to come.

January Marketplace Refresh

January is the perfect time to take a look at life and maybe make a few changes. I’m not talking huge life altering things, more like tiny refreshes with a focus on increased quality in life and home. I’ve updated The Marketplace with plenty of new goods to make your January refresh a reality. Plenty of new home goods, art, and more – here are just a few of my favorite pieces.

January-Refresh–Great.ly-Design-Crush

The Family of Things: Woodland and The Family of Things: Polar can add a bit of magic to your walls. A colorful geometric pillow cover packs a punch of color for your living room or bedroom. This navy dot cotton scarf is a great piece to layer with to keep out the chill. Use this cork bowl in the kitchen to corral all of that lovely citrus bounty. The understated Nebula Bangle will work hard all winter, then transition with your wardrobe to spring. Don’t forget about your skin – use this detox body oil in your bath and on your body. Make your time in the kitchen happier with this sweet hand block printed tea towel.

See all of or makers and their goods over on The Marketplace!

Lana Pelana

Lana Pelana-5-Design Crush

I’m never sure why there isn’t more amazing textile-focused jewelry out there. Marta, the Spanish maker behind Lana Pelana, is fascinated with the possibilities behind embroidery. It takes her several days to finish each hand-stitched piece, the end result a small “crafted amulet” that’s a treasure to wear.
