Spring Fever

Later this week the temps are supposed to drop again, spring you’re just so fickle! Each issue features a selection of dads with great stories who are doing noteworthy things as parents. RIP Google Reader

There’s a 99.9% chance that you’ve heard the news by now, Google Reader is the latest casualty in the company’s attempt to pare down services. (I’m already scared for Gmail.) I’ve used Google Reader for the past five years and was left wondering what to move on to once it says adios come July 1st, if you read sites on GR you’ve probably been left thinking the same. I’ve decided not to wait until doomsday to make the switch and signed up for Feedly and The Old Reader to see which one I like best. If you’d like to keep up with Design Crush and your favorite sites and you’re currently reading via Google Reader, I’d suggest making the switch to a new RSS service. A few options are Feedly, The Old Reader, Bloglovin, and Reeder. And here’s how to export your feeds. Here’s to the future!

You Should Totally: Washi Tape Your Door Edges

There are a few things in this world to which I have a difficult time committing. Paint is one of them. I’ve seen images of brightly painted door edges floating around for months now, and I love the look but couldn’t… you know. Then the other day it hit me, why not washi tape my office door’s edge instead?! This project is perfectly impermanent and takes approximately two minutes to execute, how’s that for instant gratification? All you need is your favorite roll of washi tape and an X-acto knife to trim around the hardware. I was happy with one strip right down the middle of the edge, but you could definitely cover the entire width with a few extra minutes and a little more tape. Now my door makes me smile every time I walk into my office space!

The Mod Collective

The second I saw The Mod Collective‘s porcelain collection I knew that if forced to choose one line for my entire kitchen this would be the one. Each piece is created by a combination of design software and 3D printers, then hand finished and glazed on the inside to make it food safe while the exterior is left raw. My favorite feature is that raw pigment is added to the porcelain slip, which means that if a piece were to chip you wouldn’t see white on the interior like most pieces.

Airport codes have always fascinated me, the fact that three little letters assigned to each location are responsible for keeping the entire system organized the world over. Pretty amazing. Neil Stevens seemingly agrees, he’s created a series of flight tag prints based on vintage luggage tags dating back to the 1950s. Which one is your favorite?
