Humanae

As PANTONE continues its plot for world domination (hoorah!), Angelica Dass is in the midst of an on-going chromatic cataloguing project of human skin tones – Humanae. Dass bases each background Pantone swatch on an 11×11 pixel swatch of the model’s face, you can check out the complete catalogue in its most up to date state on her site.

Stately Sandwiches

There’s definitely a trend of state-based projects making the circuit lately, and I have to say I love it. The latest is Kelly Pratt’s Stately Sandwiches. She and a group of friends around the country will be noshing on sandwiches from all 50 states, then Pratt will create a poster for each deconstructed sammie. She’s eleven states in, so stay tuned if yours hasn’t shown up just yet! (via Laughing Squid)

Create + Connect Project

Picture it. You’re sitting in your cubicle on another boring (snore) conference call. You’re daydreaming of what you want to be doing instead. You know you have the creative skills to pay the bills, but you’re maybe not so sure about how to get from point A to point B. Enter the Create + Connect Project!

I’m thrilled to be teaming up with a handful of incredibly talented and inspiring peers who have all gone through the transition themselves. The Create + Connect Project is specially tailored for for creative types who want nothing more than to follow their passion. There’s no better time than right now to go for it – trust me when I say no one else is going to do it for you. (Now I sounds like a faux motivational speaker!) You can take the first step and sign up right here*! The first module starts Wednesday, June 6th and program registration if open through May 31st. You’ll find me during the last module on Creating a Community of Raving Fans. Let us help you turn your passion into profit!

* Should you click and sign up, I will receive a small fee. It all keeps Design Crush going.

Urban Geodes

You can go ahead and file Paige Smith’s urban geodes project under Things I Wish I’d Thought of First. Paige has been installing these metallic paper structures that mimic mineral formations in spaces in buildings and holes in pipes all around Los Angeles. The joy lies in their unexpectedness and the fact that they might be easily missed. Check out Paige’s map of their locations (12 so far) and hunt for them on your own! (via Got a Girl Crush)

Brand Spirit

I’m completely intrigued by this project. Brand Spirit takes away all personality and just leaves functionality behind, right down to the design of the site.

“Brand Spirit: every day for 100 days, I will paint one branded object white, removing all visual branding, reducing the object to its purest form. Each object may be purchased for less than $10, something I own, something another person gives me, or something I find.”

The Chicago Neighborhoods

The Chicago Neighborhoods project is designer Steve Shanabruch’s take on the city he loves. As he says, “a neighborhood with a logo is better than a neighborhood without.” Shanabruch will be posting a new black and white design every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until all 77 community areas and some of the more well-known neighborhoods are represented. (Can’t wait to see Wicker Park, my haunting grounds for a bit in the early oughts!)
