Aditi Kapur / The Theory of Colours

Aditi Kapur‘s The Theory of Colours concept was inspired by the unlikely combination of her 10-month-old niece and Drake’s Hotline Bling video. The vivid, rich colors had her rapt and it got Aditi wanting to create something interactive, combining color theory and gel films.

“The Theory Of Colours is the interaction between geometric artworks and gel papers, producing fascinating results with colours that are as much fun as they are a learning experience for kids and adults alike. The process of using different combinations of gel papers with the artwork to arrive at a visual answer makes the prospect especially exciting for kids, owing to how naturally inquisitive they are.”

Basic House II

Basic House II by Martin Azua is a habitable space that’s foldable, inflatable, and reversible. The experimental prototype is constructed out of polyester and is currently part of MOMA’s collection in New York. This almost immaterial house self-inflates with body heat or from the heat of the sun, it protects from the cold one way and from the heat when reversed.

Layer

Like to change up your decor as often as you change your clothes? South Korean industrial designer Sohyun Yun has created a chair – Layer – made out of clear acrylic. It’s entirely customizable, inspired by our consumerist society where people buy things then quickly discard them once something new comes along.

Ilot

Ilot is one of those projects that I got really excited about and then was immediately crushed, because it’s a concept and not available for purchase. Ilot, French for island, was created by Marine Hunot during a residency in Fay Billot, a village in the French countryside. Hunot used two unlikely materials – felt and wicker – to create one amazing rug.

DIAGONAL Concrete Tile

Good things are happening in the world of tile, these DIAGONAL Concrete Tiles are not the least of it. The decorative pieces are constructed from concrete and wood, a square slashed diagonally in half, and meant to be mixed and matched for maximum impact.

Food for Thought Book Collection

I’m in love with this brilliantly creative idea – the Food for Thought Book Collection – by Maria Mordvintseva-Keeler. Three books with edible names have been packaged up in tin cans, complete with the daily value of humor and irony that the book contains, the number of pages that make the perfect serving size and the ingredients of the novel.
