TUKAANI.

As the name suggests, the tucan’s bill was the inspiration behind the design and creation of TUKAANI. The sterling silver TUKAANI is a hand made eating device for Asian food that may be held as traditional chopsticks. The taut movement allows a steady grip in the hand while the curl at the end provides easy delivery to the mouth. The loop also allows easier hanging, storage and display.

Wax Crayons in a Box.

There’s really no reason for me to ever own a set of crayons that are A.) this pure or B.) this expensive because I’m not that cool of an artist. But you know what? Yeah, I still want them.

Pure beeswax is combined with all-natural pigments to create pure color that can be used in all kinds of ways. Children will find the chunky shape ideal for coloring and drawing forms and shapes. More accomplished artists can explore layering color or etching using the enclosed scraper. Artisans can even experiment with melting the wax with an iron. The 25 hues are based on an extension of Goethe’s 12-part color circle, which represents the natural progression of the color spectrum.

Octopus Chandeliers.

The single and double Octopuses are the classic chandelier reinvented, modernized and octopusized. The fixtures have a central globe light from which lightbulb-footed legs protrude – the double has two sets as opposed to the singles one. Sculptural and functional at the same time and so much fun.

WASARA.

Some people don’t have everyday tableware that’s as nice as WASARA. And it’s made of paper. Aesthetically pleasing, well-designed paper. Because even though each piece can only be used once before being discarded, everything is made from reed pulp and bagasse (sugarcane waste) which are most definitely biodegradable. Yet at the same time WASARA is still extremely sturdy and durable while in use. Lovely design, lovely product.

Handpresso.

I’m obsessed with the Olympics, but they’re absolutely horrible for my sleeping habits! I don’t want to miss anything so I stay up. And then the next day? Yup, you guessed it, I’m at about 25%.

If I could toss the Handpresso in my bag I’d be golden. It’s a portable espresso machine that you operate with a pump, not a plug. Love it.

WineSkin.

Basically a bubble-wrapped pouch that fits snugly around a bottle of wine, WineSkin is great for mailing, packing in luggage and pretty much any other time you need to get some wine to its destination intact. A really simple idea that yields great results.

2

Creemy.

Holy moly, the Creemy Tea & Coffee Collection is absolutely to die for. I love all of the unexpected angles, spouts and extensions from the pieces. The monochromatic white really lets them shine.

Designer Karim Rasheed explains the bone china pieces best, saying “The British in me always loved tea, my Egyptian in me always loved coffee and I love them both when they are Creemy.”

2

Ascaso.

Ascaso is the proud manufacturer of espresso coffee machines for those truly diehard java lovers out there. They have five styles of professional coffee machines that would be at home in any 1950s kitchen. Really stylish as well as easy to use and available in a ton of brilliant colors. This beauty would be displayed smack dab in the center of my counter, all the better to show it off!

Shit Happens.

Shit Happens dog poo bags strike me as both hilarious and awesome at the same time. Hilarious because, well, who wants to think about dog poo ever let alone before 9:00 am. And awesome because they combine functional design (you don’t have to get too close to the actual poo) with great packaging (check out those color choices and type). A definitive two thumbs up for taking a product that is decidedly un-fun and making it just the opposite.

Their tagline? “Shit happens – just be prepared.” Couldn’t have said it any better myself.
