I could write about Matthias Heiderich for days, both because his architectural photography is so good and because there’s such a plethora of it to explore. He always seems to be looking up and out, busily capturing everyday beauty that others don’t seem to see on their own.

I’m often fooled into thinking a painting is a photo, but rarely the other way around. As much as I’ve seen of Mária Švarbová‘s pool-centric work lately, I never realized they were photographs rather than pigment on canvas until reading it on her site. Mária’s overexposed Swimm and Swimming Pool series feel downright unreal and otherworldly.

I haven’t come across much fun art lately, that is until AnaHell‘s Secret Friends crossed my screen. She creates her quirky fun characters by having people almost fold themselves in half, then draws any number of expressions on their bare backs before posing them in a random environment and photographing them in a documentary style. If this doesn’t make you smile, well I don’t know what to say.
Photographer Maroesjka Lavigne‘s Land of Nothingness lets us explore Namibia’s scorched barren plains and washed out landscape. Nothing, upon nothing, upon nothing until all of a sudden… something. A rare sight capturing the country’s subtle scenery in the form of gas station or herd of animals. But look fast or you might just miss it.
I don’t know a ton about Karmen Ayvazyan‘s backstory, but I love the outcome of everything she puts into her work. Her Hair series feeds right into my love of any and all art that includes the stuff.
I’m in the best mood this week, and influential/visionary photographer Nick Knight‘s paint explosions capture how my guts are feeling. Destruction can be so captivatingly beautiful. Knight’s site SHOWstudio documents his creative processes from conception to completion – don’t you love a good behind the scenes?
